Well, I must say I'm pretty excited -- we've accumulated about an inch of the white stuff here in Charlotte -- we're supposed to get anywhere from 3-6 inches or more -- yippee!!! The good news is that it comes down, stays awhile, then melts before turning gray and dingy.

I know that doesn't sound like much to some of you Freepers -- especially those of you in Buffalo, Michigan or the Northwest. Please keep in mind that few people in Charlotte know how to drive on snow and ice (I intend on staying off the roads, not because snow scares me -- I learned to drive on snow and ice in Ohio -- but because of the trend toward fender-benders), we don't have a lot of snow equipment for road maintenance, and about now, there won't be a loaf of bread, gallon of milk or 12 pack of toilet paper (or beer) to be found!!! Not to mention the run on pre-packaged "far wood".

Yes... off to Snowshoe. I have never skiied, either, but my children have been there twice with church groups. Since my son is home for a month, we are having a family vacation. I think I am going to take lots of books since they will not want to hang out with me on bunny slopes. ;-)

LOL -- you sure hit the nail on the head -- schools closed through July!!! Pretty funny!! Where are you in the Charlotte area? I'm in Southeast Charlotte.

Wow! That looks almost like my back yard in our ice storm 2 years ago. It took me a week to get trees and fallen branches cut up and out to the road. Fortunately, nothing hit a car and the pine tree that was leaning on the house straightened up when it thawed.

Last summer, I had all the pine trees taken out... because I learned cutting trees up is not fun. Actually, our ice storm was no where near as pretty as yours. :-)

Unfortunately, we're supposed to have snow and ice on Sunday and snow showers on Monday -- at least here in Charlotte. Fayetteville usually has similar weather -- either a bit better or a bit worse. But you never know -- that could change very quickly.

Here in the Fox Valley of Wisconsin there's maybe an inch of old snow on the ground.
All the snowmobilers are out on the lakes and ponds.

Poorman is from South Dakota; he's amused by such little storms paralyzing southeastern cities.

In the California mountain town of Paradise, after a heavy snow, people would go up to the reservoir to play "snow pull". This was ON the main road, by the way. Guys would get a running start on the straightaway, then zoom their pickup trucks up the hill as far as they could go before losing momentum and sliding back down the slope. I should mention: a reservoir is on one side of the road, and a deep canyon is on the other.

I can understand that. I installed a network in a bank over in Alexandria Bay, NY that next spring, and the damage was very apparent. Ice Storms are hard on everything. I'd rather get 2 feet of snow.

I thought Teacup was in VA near DC. Mountaineer is in WV, but I don't know where. Maybe if she is near Snowshoe, we can have a FReep on the slopes. ;-)

Our son went one year with a large group from our church .... they promised to take care of him and make sure he learned how to ski. We got the dreaded phone call ..... he took a bad fall. The only injury was a fat lip .... but he had All-County band auditions the day after they were to return .... and played the trombone.

One of our dear friends said that as she saw him tumbling down the slopes she was trying to figure out how she was going to call us and tell us they would be bringing him home in little pieces. She said it was worse than the Wide World of Sports "agony of defeat" footage as she witnessed it from the ski lift.

Son got up, dusted the snow off his clothes, and headed for the lift to go again. LOL!

The next year, we went .... and hubby busted his knee. Didn't need surgery or anything that drastic .... but he doesn't try to ski any more. It's a shame ..... he loved it!

Has been snowing in Augusta, GA since around 1100. Turned to sleet acouple hours ago and the temp 27.

I got called into work tonight and I hope I can get home in the morning.

I hear all the solar powered snow plows are in Atlanta. Could be a long wait for the roads to get cleared!

The snow is all but gone after accumulating to the dizzying depth of three inches here in Ellisville, MS, a mere hundred miles from the Gulf. We we all quite excited and took the customary video, but no clumps of snow in the freezer, as our big freezer is out of commision (it is difficult to subsist without, no room for the black eyed peas, butterbeans, and blueberries! Needs ramification..). This has been the snow storm of the century so far, and I wouldn't hold my breath to see a repeat. Unfortunately, two people have died in weather related accidents. Shows you how unacustomed we are to winter weather.

OK, girl..........FINALLY gettin' some white stuff falling here (well heck.......you only live a stone's throw from me, so I guess you kinda knew that :) ). Stocked up, snow shovel ready, etc., etc., yada, yada. Gonna be baby Jared's first look at snow. :)

Remember.............STAY AWAY FROM THE MORONS IN 4-WHEEL-DRIVE VEHICLES IN THE SOUTH!!!!!!!! (when it snows, that is..............), and especially if you hear "Hey, y'all..........watch thee-is!!!!!!!"

I can imagine your friend's feeling when she saw your son take a spill! My son went the first time with his school, a boarding school in N. GA. They called me to tell me he was in the hospital, and I almost fainted. He fell and the ski pole cut his head, requiring stitches, but he was okay. Now with his military haircut, he still has an obvious part. ;-)

I tease him that I may try snowboarding with him, doing flips and things. He is scared because he never knows what I will do, but I plan to be sensible. The people at the resort weren't impressed when I asked if I could bring my sled.... so I guess a good book in front of the fire will have to suffice.

We Southerners are always quite amused by the reports of Yankee cities shutting down because it got up to 100 or so, and people start dropping like flies. Not sure which is worse, heat or snow.
