Hate to rub it in but it's 83 and sunny here on Maui and the Mai Tais are dancing under the palms. The Humpback whales are here for the winter also. They seem to be smarter than some humans. Aloha Nui Loa

Yes, something similar happens in California. Most of the state (I'm a native) gets very hot summers. But not the Bay Area - summer fog keeps it cool. EXCEPT when a very rare heat wave hits. 85-90 degrees will drop those people in their tracks.

It doesn't even take
snow in Charlotte for the number of wrecks to increase astronomically ..... a rainy day brings out all the nuts on the streets and roads.
It's snowing lightly in Gastonia now ..... the ground is almost covered now.

Phantom Lord reporting in. Very little to no snow action in Apex. Very light flurries, if you want to call them that.
Ran out of milk with breakfast this morning. Stopped on way home at store to get some. Store looked like a tornado hit it. Wussy southerners running scared and panicing.
Take this advice... ITS ONLY SNOW! You Do NOT need to buy a months worth of groceries!
O-ya, no milk left for me to buy.

Sounds nice!
I grew up in Southern California, and our neighbors would take their pickup truck up in the mountains and bring back a load of snow. They'd dump it out on their lawn and us kids would play with it as long as it lasted.

Windshields are covered now but nothing sticking on the road yet in Chapel Hill (7:19 pm). Well, actually it's not Chapel Hill...it's 3 miles south in the fair county of Chatham.

few people in Charlotte know how to drive on snow and ice Make that "Few people any where in the South".
When poorman and I were stationed at Barksdale AFB (Shreveport, Louisiana), a storm like the current one hit the area.
First rain, then freezing rain, then sleet, then snow. All told, about 3 inches or so of frozen precipitation was on the ground.
The towns shut down. Shreveport/Bossier City shut down. I-20 shut down. Even the base shut down.
Poorman was confused; he's a South Dakotan and THEY don't shut down for 3 lousy inches of winter weather.

It started snowing here in Columbia SC around 11:00AM and continued till around 6:00PM. However we're getting sleet now and the weather guy says we haven't even seen the bulk of the storm yet which should be moving-in oven-night and lasting till 6:00PM Thursday accumulations expected to be 4-8". We have about 2" of snow now
To: MichelleSC
oops oven-night should read over-night

I think i can survive without ceral for a day or two.
On the other hand, all you people who went on a shopping spree today, you will soon have more than you can use and a lot will go to waste. Can you say moldy bread!

Snow to the south of me (Charlotte, Union county) and snow to the north of me (Raleigh), but so far none here although the forecast is for 3-6 inches.
My daugter just called from Union county (6 miles outside of Monroe) and said she'd already gone sledding with her son.....approximately 2 inches there. Last year she and her family had to stay in motels and with me for the week that electricity was out and one of their cars was iced in.
I have heat, TP, milk, homemade soup, and bread as well as DVD, VCR, satelite TV, books, FR, and telephone so I'm going to cocoon tomorrow.

Just some flurries in Cary so far, enough to dust the roof. What the heck! I moved here from Chicago to get away from this! Since then, I've seen over 20" of snow in '00 and now this storm. I just hope the snowplows plow my street this time.
