IF NEWSPAPERS ARE indeed the first draft of history, Bill Clinton's chance for a favorable reappraisal of his presidency is in trouble.

His supporters have hoped that as time adds perspective, Clinton's personal peccadilloes will shrink in memory, while underappreciated accomplishments will grow in importance.

Yet, while assesing Culpability, where was The NYSlimes, and the Rest of the News World in making this case as Glaring to the American Public as it should have been.... AT THAT TIME!?!?!?!?!

They were to busy covering Clinton's rear end because like Clinton .. they also had an AGENDA ..

Just think IF these Liberal Rags had the guts to report the TRUTH about Clinton before the 92 Elections .. Clinton would NEVER have been elected and we as a Nation would not be in the mess we are in today ..

The GOP made the mistake of focusing on the whole sexual pecadillo aspect.

With respect, that wasn't the case. The media made sure that all the emphasis was on that aspect of Clinton's wrongdoing - remember "it's all about sex?" - because it was easiest to defend. But in fact they did so in an effort to cover up the other, less defensible aspects of his administration, and quite successfully, too. What that allowed was the sort of moral equivalencey encapsulated in the statement "they all do it" and validated by all the dirt they could dig up on GOP sexual pecadillos, which were held to an even higher standard than that of the Dems because they were held to be hyprocritical. A nice game, well played, and successful because of the nearly monolithic support Clinton enjoyed among the print and broadcast media.

One of Clinton's problems, of course, was that by the time of the embassy bombings, the Monica Lewinsky scandal was consuming the administration.

It was his own stinking fault that he was burried in scandle, and his own stinking fault for choosing to fight for his personal power (at the expense of the nation) instead of resigning like he should have done.

I think thats what they are admitting in a way. Pres. Bush with all the negative publicity surrounding him, in the early days was able to focus on his policies and get the country moving forward.

Ummmmm, The GOP was focused oin the whole ABUSE OF POWER Aspect...The media was fixated on the Sex aspect, because they knew the Sheeple would find it easier to understand, and believe, and make X42s problem survivable.

It was more about sex than anything else, in the perception of most americans

But for those who were there - and aware - it had nothing to do with sex. After all, a fellow traveler of BJ named OJ got away with murder that could be described as "more about sex". The felonies, obstructions, and perjuries committed by William Jefferson Clinton cannot be excused merely because they were committed in order to cover up something totally legal and fairly common among politicians. Unfortunately, that blazingly obvious principle was covered up in the smokescreen layed down by the DNC and left-leaning media to confuse those who need to have their news and interpretations delivered gift-wrapped.

Perhaps Lehigh needs a bound copy of the DSL to get up to speed?

While all the Clinton press slaves keep reiterating the "problems" of being "distracted" by the Lewinsky scandal, lets never forget his:

AMAZING ABILITY TO COMPARTMENTALIZE HIS WORK FOR "the people". Where is all the talk about that NOW!!!!!!!!!

Exactly, BTD. In the same manner as the "government shutdown" became the fault of the Republicans (and not Clinton, who was the one who wouldn't sign the funding bill), the issue with Clinton became "just about sex".

The China stuff got deflected by the "conservative media" (what a rip-snorting laff that liberals are trying to sell that pile of pony-poop!), who focused on the easy issue, as you said.

Dude, I agree with you and hate Clinton as much as anyone possibly could. What im saying is if you ask the majority of Americans (the uninformed and could care less crowd, which makes up about 75% of the population.) what the Clinton impeachment trial was about, the answer you get is Monica Lewinsky. Thats all im saying, and for the Boston Globe to even print anything negative about Bubba that's a huge step forward. Ill really be convinced though, when I see something negative about Teddy Kennedy.

Not a bad idea. I know Lehigh sometimes responds to email from the hoi polloi, and he seems like a very decent guy.

I suspect that most Americas now associate Sept. 11th. with the failure of the clinton administration........and nothing more......if he allowed the scandal to consume him most think that was entirely his own doing. Sept. 11th. gave America a chance to reflect on the TRUTH.

the answer you get is Monica Lewinsky

Why Starr/the GOP/Whomever decided to make her the focal point of our case against Clinton, I'll never understand.
