I can speak from personal experience. In my pre-med years, it was easy to pick out in advance, with better than 90% accuracy, those who would perform the worst.

At Revelle College, UCSD, there was a requirement for a non-contiguous minor. Some of those people foolishly signed up for senior sequence biology classes. You could tell who they were when the prof posted the exam stats. The seniors had test scores ranging from 88 to 97...and the non-contiguous minors clustered from 63 to 66 (all 5 of them). I hung around with 3 other people on a regular basis in those classes. One of my group of 4 people always had the top score on any given exam in those classes. The points spread rarely exceeded 2 within the group. Even as a full classroom, the mean and standard deviation showed an exceptionally competitive group.

I can't understand why some people here have no problems at all bashing the Catholic faith on this board. Do they learn to do this at their church? Where does this come from?

Theresa, sorry for the delay in my response to you. I wasn't online last night.

I am sorry to admit that, yes, sometimes that attitude IS learned at church. I grew up in the Pentecostal Church in Tulsa Oklahoma during the 40's and the 50's. We were taught that the Catholic Church is the Whore of Babylon as discussed in Revelation. I don't know for a fact, but I would assume it's still being taught today.

I'm not Catholic, but it seems to me that freerepublic.com implies that Catholics are as free to post here as anyone else.

Exactly the point I was trying to make, to the one who complained of catholic-bashing. That's a two-edged sword.

Persons who push an agenda, get pushed back.

"Bump this every day".

DemocRATS won't be able to get away with demonizing the Christians who hold to the "Faith of Our Fathers".

Here is an excerpted commentary from someone who understands that faith which was embraced by the Framers, and which was the basis for the way they wrote our founding documents:

"We have (at least) two competing visions about how America should be Christianized. Mine is non-statist. I want greater liberty and greater obedience, not less liberty in the attempt to politically guarantee such obedience.

This dilemma is highlighted by the critics on the Left that we are “The American Taliban.” After all, some contend, don’t we agree with most of the Taliban’s criticisms of the decadent United States? Don’t we believe in a union of church and state? Don’t we advocate an enforced Christianity, as they do an enforced Islam?

In a word, no. The Taliban are (were!) godless political tyrants bent on protecting a murderous international cartel. The fact that they opposed Buddha and adultery and miniskirts and feminism and homosexuality and rock music and porno are coincidental. They practiced a medieval morality, not a Christian morality. I’ll take America’s low morals and free institutions any day over the Taliban’s high morals and tyrannical state because (a) we can address the moral problem by a full-orbed gospel as long as we have the political freedom to preach it and (b) a high morality that must be enforced by a tyrannical state is a hypocritical, godless morality."

Excerpted from: Commentary HERE.
