It's doubtful that gin, rum, vodka, whiskey or tequila will replace champagne as the preferred beverage of the new year, no matter how many commercials for distilled spirits appear on NBC. But the network's recent decision to carry such ads revives an old controversy about the evils of liquor as compared to those of wine and beer.

Alcohol kills 300,000 a year and costs this economy billions. We need to restore prohibition. The only more useless product in the world is tobacco.

SURELY YOU JEST.

After the horrible experience with Prohibition in the 1920's (that's how most of the organized crime in the USA got their start), reviving Prohibition is a stupid idea beyond belief.

We have the same "horrible" results of prohibition in place now. What's the difference if alcohol and tobacco are added to the list, none.

The Constitution does not grant the right to be intoxicated or to "smoke" something who's only use is a low grade insect repellent.

We need to restore prohibition.

Now there's an idea whose time has come.

Brilliant.

The Founders didn't want the Federal Government to play moma and papa.

The "Founders" didn't believe in income taxes but that didn't stop anything.

We already have all the problems that could possibly be a result of alcohol and tobacco prohibition, and we already have police forces and powers in place to enforce them. "Let's Roll"

The Constitution doesn't "grant" any rights: it affirms the natural rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and limits the power of government to interfere in the above. It is only statists, socialists, prohibitionists, and other assorted government busybodies who have "interpreted" (twisted) it that gave government the authority to pass prohibitory laws.

BTW, I will fight (with guns if necessary) anyone who attempts to deprive me of my right to pursue happiness by relishing a nice, cold, frosty Coors Light in the comfort of my home !:-)

"The Constitution does not grant the right to be intoxicated "

The Constitution does not grant any rights.
Rather, it frames out what rights that we already have, should not be infringed.
The authors believed that men were endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights.

Nor does the Constitution prohibit such activity. Do you have a hangover this morning?

It's insane to fight this WOD while alcohol and tobacco cause more illness and cost society thousands of times the dollars. It's time to stop being hypocrits, make it all illegal.
