2001: A Grace Odyssey
Mercurial Times ^ | December 31, 2001 | Anna Z.

Posted on 12/31/2001 3:25:19 PM PST by Mercuria

The television in my house never gets turned on in the morning unless there's some earth-shattering event taking place. And if there weren't any Simpsons, it might never get turned on at all. This year had the power flowing early twice. The first was Inauguration Day.

Even though this family had voted independent we had rallied hard for the legitimate winner, George W. Bush, and hard rallying was what was needed. We are of the side that knows that the U.S. Supreme Court simply upheld the law, and not twisting with the belief that a coup was enabled by said body of Justice. Having lived through two attempted coup d'etat myself, I know the difference. That is what we might have seen had the real attempted theft of the Presidency been successful. It would not have been a coup by "rich oil men", either, but by We The People.

And so on January the 20th I woke up and immediately grabbed the remote to find the televised ceremony. Was it really going to happen? Might Clinton actually, really leave? I had to witness it to be sure. And witness it I did, surprised by my euphoria, but not by my sense of relief.

Since that day, Dubya has done much to win my heart, to the chagrin, I think, of some of my fellow travelers. I have gazed long and hard at just the things I want to see, some say, and have overlooked the Swiss in the cheese. Perhaps.

There is a little rift in the Right. Those who peer too long and hard at the holes are labeled "tin-foilers", a slur at the paranoia that might lead one to wrap themselves in aluminum head gear to fend off government mind control rays. The 'foilers call their detractors "sheeple", dull, mindless grazers of the pap of propaganda. I find myself meandering through the mush of the middle ground.

The second time our TV, and I, got the AM wake-up was on my spouse's birthday. It was six in the morning but I answered such an early telephone ringing as my father-in-law lives on the East coast. The call was expected. But the dialogue wasn't, nor was it celebratory. It was September the 11th. The television stayed on for three days straight. A cake was never baked.

And since then the accusations of perpetration have flown as fast and furious as a hijacked jet. The predictable canard that "the Jews did it", and the just as expected "the Feds were behind it". To both fingers pointing I say, "Would it matter?"

I saw the face of the perpetrator. The face in the cloud of smoking destruction. Pure Evil. Where's the Church Lady, now that I finally need "her", now that I find the fleshly pawns to be immaterial.

When wars are long over and the Truth, that notorious first casualty, has resurrected itself, then, on occasion, comes a different tale to be told. But when a war is going on, the story given is the script to be followed, or be swallowed up by the clutching at straws.

Besides, radical Islamists aren't such a tough bogeyman to swallow. Why shouldn't we, their great enemy, finally witness first hand the destruction they are demonstrating all over this war torn globe? Whether or not someone on the "inside" is helping them out or not, they're here, amongst us, aided by any that would like to see the demolition of Individual Liberty, be they purposeful and on the Federal payroll or casual and on some University's tenure. Or they just might be working on their own. I doubt they need the CIA or the FBI in the Philippines or Indonesia or Israel or a host of other terror-wracked territories.

Anyway, I have picked my battlefields, the Left-wing media and the gun grabbers, enemies with faces and places and email addresses and telephone numbers.

I'd also like to focus on those things that bring me joy, my family and my friends, the renewed sense of Patriotism in the land of the Free, more first-time gun purchases, "Let's roll!" as a refrain. Things that give me hope.

I fell to my knees the night of the VH-1 tribute to the firefighters of 9/11. The Internet may not provide the best visuals but I still clearly heard the boos drown out the drone of Hillary Clinton, and I thanked a mighty God for a new day truly dawning in America. However, editors are already at work to erase that joy, the hard copy of that honesty on the road to revision, which they'll fail to mark as The Sycophant Edition, with cheers now replacing the jeers. Little do they realize the skirmish they have started. That's the kind of fight I like.

And fight those things I'll continue to do, with zest and zeal. I'll leave the ethereal in the ether and the wraiths to their reserved and deserved wrath. There are too many real people that need a real response.

The unseen enemy wages war not only on skyscrapers but on the heart as well, and therein is the ultimate, eternal battle. Finding humility when the soul swells itself with pride, countering fear-led greed with the gift of generosity, appreciating rather than envying, having compassion rather than seething with anger, controlling the driving of lust, tempering the inner piggy, prodding the pace of the sloth.

There, but for the grace of God, go I.

And, anyway, Christmas dinner made for an abundance of leftovers, at least a pound of uneaten ham, half a rack of roast beef, a ton, it seemed, of turkey. I used all the Reynolds in the house to wrap it all up. If I seem to be having a baaaaaaad reaction to reality I can, at the very least, blame it on the vulnerability of my unprotected mind.

Darn! It must be that Bushie virus that's going around. What she needs is a good dose of Buchanancong to cure her.

Even PJB isn't completely immune, so I gladly give Anna a pass! 'specially since some of that sugary cream filling sticks on me at times, too. ;-)

Okay, I know we can't make her president, but can't we at least clone the gal?! *L* Happy New Year BTTT!

New Celebrity Secret Diet Promises "New You" in Two Weeks!

How do those actresses and supermodels stay so slim? Sensible diet and exerciseOf course not.  They don't have time for that, and neither do youYou don't have to deprive yourself to be thin and beautiful -- you just have to know the Celebrity Secret.

Now, for the first time, the Hostess Institute is making the Celebrity Secret Diet available to you.

What's the Celebrity Secret Diet?  And does it really work? Just read this testimonial:

Marcie, 41, stay-at-home mom. Taking care of 3 kids and a husband, I had no time to take care of myself.  I gained weight with each of my pregnancies, then kept packing on the pounds.  And I just don't have 20 minutes a day to exercise -- and even less time for worrying about preparing fruits and vegetables.  But with the Celebrity Secret Diet, I've lost those unwanted pounds.  And I have such great bursts of energy!  It's been a dream come true.

So what's the Celebrity Secret?  Why is the Hostess Institute making it available to everyone?  Still not convinced it works?  Just read this:

Anne, 32, bookkeeper.   I've tried just about every diet plan, but could never stick to one.  I not only had to spend too much time preparing meals, I had to deprive myself of the food I really loved.  But with the Celebrity Secret Diet, food that is part of my plan takes no time to prepare, is tasty, portable, and lasts forever.  And what's more, I'm losing weight.  It's great!

Is it possible for a diet plan to be easy and effective?  It is if it's the Celebrity Secret Diet!

So how does the Celebrity Secret Diet work?  Let's have a doctor explain it.

Dr. Anhors Utrecht, M.D., is Director of Obesityology at the Hostess Institute.  He has counseled actresses, supermodels, and others in losing weight.  According to Dr. Utrecht:

The Celebrity Secret Diet works because the subject -- or dieter --  takes in fewer calories than are needed to perform daily functions.  Consequently, fat and other body reserves are called upon to supply energy.  Thus, the subject loses weight.

Sure, it sounds simple.  But does it really workRead this woman's amazing story:

Wanda, 38, stuntwoman.  As a stuntwoman, I've got to stay as slim as the actresses I double for.  And they're getting skinnier and skinnier, so I've got to keep up.  With my hectic lifestyle, I needed a diet plan with foods that give me quick energy and are easy to find and simple to prepare.  The Celebrity Secret Diet has been just that.  Now I'm thin and have no desire to ever eat normally again.  Thank you, Celebrity Secret Diet!

So what is the Celebrity Secret Diet?  How can you achieve the weight you've always dreamed of?  And can it really be done without depriving yourself? Yes.

What's the "Secret" in the Celebrity Secret Diet?  Is it herbal?  Are there powders to mix?  Does it involve harsh chemicals, rigorous exercise, or dangerous prescription drugs? No.

So just what is the Celebrity Secret Diet?   Dr. Anhors Utrecht, M.D., Director of Obesityology at the Hostess Institute, explains it best:

In developing the Celebrity Secret Diet, we sought to create a diet plan that fit three criteria:
    1. Good-tasting food.
    2. Little preparation and planning.
    3. The consumption of fewer calories than the dieter expends.

In our research, we discovered that just one food could meet all these demanding criteria:  Hostess Twinkies.  Yes, believe it or not, each delicious, cream-filled Hostess Twinkie contains just 150 calories.  And each box of moist, fluffy Hostess Twinkies contains 10 Twinkie snack cakes.  Therefore, one box of Hostess Twinkies, delicious and readily available anywhere overweight people are likely to live, contains 1500 calories -- less than the average dieter expends in daily living.  And on the Celebrity Secret Diet, you don't feel those hunger pangs that can push you into eating junk food and spoiling your diet.  You don't have to ignore those cravings for "non-diet" food!  In fact, on the Celebrity Secret Diet, you can eat anything at all that you want, as long as it's Twinkies.

Of course, trials with actual dieters were necessary for determining whether the Celebrity Secret Diet would be successful.  In these trials, we determined that one box of delicious Hostess Twinkies daily, accompanied by 8 glasses of water, resulted in weight loss.

Yes, it's that simpleNo powders.  No hunger pangs.  No dangerous drugs to take. No complicated measuring.   That's the Celebrity Secret Diet -- the tasty, easy-to-prepare diet plan that enables actresses and supermodels to stay so slim.  And now you can too!  Buy a box today -- and another one for tomorrow!

Hostess, Inc. and its subsidiaries are not responsible for any shredding of skin from the roof of the mouth, rotting teeth, scurvy, pellagra, beri-beri, rickets, or other symptoms of malnutrition (including flies) that result from following the Celebrity Secret Diet.

We share the same battlefields. Yes, I will look at other places and listen but these are where I draw my line in the sand.

I'd also like to focus on those things that bring me joy, my family and my friends, the renewed sense of Patriotism in the land of the Free, more first-time gun purchases, "Let's roll!" as a refrain. Things that give me hope.

A very good idea for all.

Here's hoping for a good '02, god knows '01 really blew...

Forgive me, but when I get handed an opening like that...

Here's hoping for a good zero-two
God knows zero-one really blew
No more downed towers
Or suicide cowards
And peace for the red, white and blue
