The most alarming signs are preparations in both states for the use of nuclear-tipped missiles.

Intelligence agencies have learned of indications that India is getting its short-range Prithvi ballistic missiles ready for use. The missiles are within range of the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, Gertz reports in Monday's WASH TIMES... MORE...

Meanwhile, Pakistan is mobilizing its Chinese-made mobile M-11 missiles, also known as the Shaheen, which have been readied for movement from a base near Sargodha, Pakistan.

Here's a little map of where the two capitals are, and how far those nukes have to go:

It's nothing new. It happens all the time. Don't get too worked up about it. This time it just makes US the press easier because of the Afgan situation.

It will be interesting to see if civilians are forcefully evacuated from Islamabad and New Delhi in the near future...

I noticed that that map doesn't include Kashmir as part of India. Interesting ; it should.

Oh really? Gee, why is it that India never held the national plebiscite it agreed to? Instead it unilaterally declared Kashmir and Jammu to be provinces of the Indian empire. Go look it up.

We'll know something bad is going to go down the instant the State Department slaps travel warnings down for Pakistan(there is probably some for there already) and India. Then they'll ask for US citizens to leave the countries.

I think the US better start preparing for fallout shelters for its civil population. We dismantled our shelters, but our government leaders had to forsight to maintain theirs. If Pakistan and India go for an exchange, it is possible for fallout to hit the west coast of the US. Fallout definitely will hit the Far East and there will be economicaly ramifications world wide. Japan and Taiwan are one of the largest US bond holders. If their populations panic and want to convert everything into cash so they can leave, US bonds will be dumped onto the open market which in turn has an impact on our interest rates. Disruption of the Far East will impact our export market thus the economies of the west coast US. Looks like the west coast US is going to take a double wammy. In the meantime we freepers should start stockpiling food, water and etc in case disruptions impact the US.

When Pakistan moves ALL the troops from the Afgan border then we should worry. Maybe India thinks that it should take care of this problem now while Pakistan only has a few Nukes instead of waiting untill later, just a thought.

Not to be too picky, but Drudge linked this story from the Worldtribune.com site as the source. Just dotting an "i" and crossing a "t". ;)

India, Pakistan exchange heavy mortar fire

Indian and Pakistani troops exchanged heavy mortar fire over their border in southern Kashmir, a senior Indian army official said.

Brigadier P.C. Das said the heaviest shelling was in the Pallanwalla sector, 80 kilometres (50 miles) west of the Kashmiri winter capital Jammu. Five Indian soldiers were seriously injured.

The two sides also exchanged mortar fire in nearby Nowshera sector, where more than 1,000 villagers had to be evacuated from their homes overnight Sunday.

"This is the heaviest mortar shelling we have seen for four months," Das said, claiming that the Pakistani units had fired first.

India and Pakistan regularly trade artillery, mortar and small arms fire across their disputed Kashmir border, but the clashes have taken on added significance and danger in the past week amid heightened military tensions between the two rivals.

Relax will ya,the nukes these guys got amount to almost nothing. The time to worry is when the US or SU decide to unleash Hell.Pak or India nukes would have no impact on US unles china decided to get involved and china knows it would be obliverated if they attacked the US.Let them spend a few Nukes, realize what they did,and maybe we can get back to life as we know it.OTOH it could be WWIII in the making,so take a valium and chill out, nothing you ,me or anyone else here does or says can make a differance.

Please explain this. I'll listen for a moment - see if you can back up your statement.
