Im more sympathetic to animal rights than most conservatives but the PETA people are idiots if cows were not useful for food and milk they would be exterminated. Ditto for minks and fur.

And what is the difference between eating dog verses eating pigs, which are more intelligent and trainable than dogs? Hogs have a much better sense of smell than dogs and make better sniffer animals for rescue and bomb searches- though they aren't as pretty to look at.

Pigs taste good and so do dogs. Don't knock it until you try it.

The only bad thing is if the physical treatment of an animal is unusually cruel, such as the practice of beating an animal before slaughter to 'improve' the flavor or tenderness of meat. It doesn't and it is pretty vile.

Cute photogenic dogs and all that, but who the hell's business is it to tell a bunch of people an ocean away what they can and can't eat?
In some parts of asia people raise guinea pigs, using them as a sort of garbage disposal until they get plump enough and eat 'em. so what? I imagine they're cute and furry too.
If meddling do-gooder busybodies are that bored and outraged about the consumption of dog meat, wouldn't it be shorter drive to go vent it at the local indian reservation? sheeese.

Who are we to say what others eat? What would you think if the nearly 1 billion hindus in India started trying to tell us not to eat beef?

They look like they are well cared for and clean. Wouldn't this certainly be a better way (logically) for the several 10's of millions we put to sleep in the humane societies yearly to be used? Now they just go to the dump or where ever.

One of the few stories my dad ever told me about Nam was one that involved him, a couple of buddies, and their attempt to pick up a mascot for their platoon. They spotted some pups in the window of a little shop and decided to take one "home" with them as a morale booster. After looking for a little while, they told the shopkeeper which one they wanted. The guy pulled the pup from the cage and took it in the back.

A little while later he produced a sizeable package wrapped in butcher's paper...

Dad and his buddies left. WITHOUT the package.

To me meat is meat. The decision as to whether an animal is food or friend is based on whether it will do me and my family more good alive or on the table.

Interesting way you put that. This is not just semantics. I've kept a watchful eye on myself in this regard. So easily people see something that they agree with -- yet the underlying group or thing they are in disagreement with. In this case PETA. PETA is not an authority. Leastwise not a valid authority. Valid authorities are marked by honesty, integrity and commitment to honest principles. I can safely assume that puts you wayyyy ahead of PETA.

PETA finally agrees with me on something, is the proper perspective/frame-of-reference. Or just PETA finally got something right. Or I have to admit PETA is right on this one.

Each person needs to live as the highest authority. I mean, who else has rights over you? Certainly not PETA.

I've eaten "monkey on a stick", rooster legs, snails, "baloomb" (half formed chicken eggs), dog, cat, rat, rabbit, lamb, squirrel, cow, bull, cow tungue, reptile, camel burgers, fish eggs, fish, tuna (wink-wink)....Bottom line, I as human am top of the food chain. If it tastes good eat it!!!!!!!

Animals were put on the Earth by God to serve man. Not the other way around. Hungry people should eat whatever food is available.

But the individuals behind the curtain at PETA and other animal-rights groups are a strange and amoral lot who have an agenda most people are totally unaware of.

While no one should be cruel to animals, it was the Nazis who hoped to elevate animals to a level alongside human beings.

I'll assume you've never been to a chicken farm? You only have problems with the puppies because they are cute. It's like the whole "dolphin-safe" tuna thing. It's ok to kill tuna but not dolphins? There are plenty of non-vegetarian PETA loudmouths and for this, they are hypocrites. If you think killing, and eating one type of animal is wrong, then you must think it's ALL wrong. I do not advocate cruelty to any animals.. I prefer them killed humanely when possible before I eat them.
