BREAKING!
5/23/01
Senator Edwards joins most liberal senators in voting against the bipartisan tax cut plan
The tax cut passed 62-38, meaning a great many Democrats voted in favor (including stalwarts Dianne Fenstein and Herb Kohl). But not John Edwards. He's far too busy cozying up to soon-to-be Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle.

North Carolinians must take heed that Edwards said "NO" to tax relief to working families.

-->
Synopsis

John Edwards represents North Carolina, a traditionally conservative state that voted 56% for George W. Bush in 2000. No Democratic presidential candidate has won North Carolina since 1976.

To win his senate seat, John Edwards campaigned as a charismatic centrist and defeated incumbent Lauch Faircloth in 1998. Since then, Edwards has voted like a Massachusetts liberal. In fact, Edwards voted with the Democrats 94% of the time in 2000. Perhaps most damning is Edwards's vote against the ban on partial birth abortions, a gruesome procedure almost universally opposed by the American people. Edwards joined only 33 other senators in opposing this bill.

It's clear that Edwards has higher ambitions than being North Carolina's junior senator. He has walked the thin line of talking like a centrist to his constituents, yet voting like a rank-and-file liberal Democrat. His voting record would almost certainly ruin his chances for re-election in 2004, but 2004 is also a presidential year. Considering that Edwards was reportedly on Al Gore's short list in 2000, there's no question that he is aiming for a spot on the big ticket in 2004.

The Latest
The Cabarrus County GOP has recently started an online petition to let Senator Edwards know that his constituents are not pleased with his love affair with the liberal left. If you are a citizen of North Carolina, please do take a minute and sign the petition.
-->
A few examples of Senator Edwards's failure to represent the people of North Carolina
  • Voted NO to partial birth abortion ban (a bill which passed 63-34).
  • Voted NO to the bipartisan tax cut plan (a bill which passed 62-38).
  • Voted NO to eliminating the marriage tax penalty.
  • Voted NO to repealing the estate tax (a bill which passed 59-39).
  • Voted NO on the confirmation of Interior Secretary Gale Norton (one of only 24 senators to do so).
  • Voted NO to temporarily suspending the gasoline tax.
  • Voted NO to stopping the use of federal funds to distribute the "morning after pill" on school grounds.
  • Voted NO to limiting the social security tax to 50% of total benefits (it had been 85%).

Bump from a proud John Edwards HATER. This guy needs to be stopped in either 2004 or 2006.

He reminds me of Klinton.

If it makes you feel better, John Edwards holds the "one-term curse" seat in Congress. For over 25 years, no person holding that seat has been elected to a second term. Observe his line of secession:

ROBERT MORGAN (D, 1975-1981)
JOHN PORTER EAST (R, 1981-1986)
TERRY SANFORD (D, 1986-1993) [filled vacancy, elected to full term afterwards-- then failed to win another]
DUNCAN "LAUNCH" FAIRCLOTH (R, 1993-1999)
JOHN EDWARDS (D, 1999-Present)

The only reason I decided to post something on him is that I was kind of ticked off at hearing Bill O'Reilly tell Russert this evening that Edwards was one of the politicians he trusted and that he(Edwards)had some good ideas! That's kind of scary coming from O'Reilly.

I wonder if that's one of the reason he might run for president! I can't believe that he or his supporters believe that a one term senator would be elected president!

He's a flippin' ambulance chaser. Nuff said. Anyone with hair like that can't be trusted either in politics.

I swear the dems have a factory. They create these machines, and crank out politicians with southern drawls and prettyboy hair. Then they make them talk right wing and vote left wing...while idiot ladies swoon over them, and just enough idiot guys say he's one of us.

GRRRRRRRRRRRR.

IMO it's easier for him to be president than to get re-elected in North CA.

Electoral college gambit.

I'll say one thing too. I may be from Mich, but if Edwards doesn't run in 2004, I'll take a week in North Carolina to work on his opponent's campaign as long as it isn't a gun grabber. He or she doesn't even have to be strong on that issue, just not a grabber.

North Carolina is getting a huge influx of ultra-liberal voters courtesy of NY. I really really hope that there are still enough Conservatives to hold North Carolina in 2004 and beyond.

North Carolina is a great state, but there are too many Southern Democrats who Vote Democrat only because of the (D). Combine them with the New Liberal NY Voters, and you have recipe for disaster.

It is vital that Conservatives Hold NC, AZ, GA and CO. These states are getting bombarded with new liberal voters who are fleeing the chaos and destruction that they created in their own states. Nevada came real close to going Gore last Election, so Did Florida which basically has a NYC on it's Southern East Coast. New Hampshire is also going democrat. Conservatives need to hold off the liberals and win over some of the die-hard southern democrats. Our Nation's future depends on it.

Just look at the History of Vermont if you think that liberals cannot take over a Republican State.

Check out http://www.uselectionatlas.org and research the results for vermont from the beginning of the 20th Century. From 1900-1960 and From 1968-1988 Vermont Went Solid Republican. Then the Retiring NYC people moved in, and starting in 1992, Vermont has become increasingly democratic.

Might be a good idea to send O'Reilly a copy of that voting record.

The folks that live in N.C. might start sending letters to the editor about this - if the paper is one that will print the facts.

I don't live in N.C. but the way they vote will affect all of us.

Not surprising that he should remind you of the "Former Occupant of the Oval Office, 1993-2001". He is of the same stripe, but without most of the personal baggage. So far as is known, there is not much hint of personal scandal surrounding the man, or his spouse. But the thought processes are similar, concerning the Sovietization of America, and he would carry the agenda right back to the White House. Nobody yet has done much to focus on this anti-Americanism, but it is there, waiting to arrive by stealth. He will carry the mantle of "New Democrat" but the old socialist garbage will remain, just below the surface.

Edwards is a 'Dem "Pretty Boy!"

This is about Image, not substance. 'Backing Edwards, the 'Dems are in their "JFK" mode.

He IS dangerous; he appeals to the female "PC Types," who "Palpitate" over a potential "JFK CLONE!"--& overlook any "flaws" in his message!

Beware!

Doc

I see what you mean. Hugh Hewitt is also very wary of this guy.But if we can all see through this trial lawyer,I think that a lot of Americans will also.In my opinion, he doesn't hold a candle to GWB in personal qualities, personality or looks. As a young kid, I was never attracted to so-called pretty boys(i.e.John Derek).I always liked the tough guys, the gangsters! I guess I was a goofy kid but I never liked men who were prettier than me,not that I think Edwards is attractive at all.
