Yeah, I know this is long long article, but I found it interesting.

I'm a 2nd ammendment defender too. The author of this peice could gain himself more credibility if he left the ethnic bashing out of the peice. Wouldn't have sacrificed any of his main points either.

Thanks for the post. It does show that the gun owner who carries a weapon does not have an easy time of it. It is a serious decision to be made, and carries much responcibility. I encounter people every day that would be shocked to find that I have a CCW and many of them are against guns in general for the same unfounded reasons........

I missed reading any "ethnic bashing". It is quite obvious that BigMedia encourages certain folk to consider themselves victims, whether they are or are not. In fact, when a Clarence Thomas, Walter Williams, or Alan Keyes, refuses to accept the mantle of victimhood, they are called a disgrace to their race. When Meir Kahane told Jews to stop lying down and taking it, to defend themselves, he was denounced for being a traitor to his Jewish religion.
Recognising that is not bashing.
OTOH, I will remember to ask anyone who is being raped, should I come upon it, whether they support RKBA. If the response is "no", I won't hesitate to allow the rapist to proceed. Guess that makes me a redneck, eh?

The author implies that the reasons for minorites (racial and ethnic) has to do with inherent ways they look at themselves. Rather, it has to do with liberal ideology that has become prevalent in the groups. Rich anglo white liberals feel the same way you know...
To: 2nd_Amendment_Defender
For example, the anti-gun person will unconsciously attempt to provoke you by claiming that gun owners are uneducated rednecks, or by treating you as if you are an uneducated redneck. But what if I really am a redneck (and proud of it)? <GRIN>

The author of this peice could gain himself more credibility if he left the ethnic bashing out of the peice. I didn't see any ethnic bashing, he was responding to the question of why some groups are less likely to accept conservative arguments than others. I think that you may have misread something, or perhaps I did.
In any case, I am a 2nd amendment backer who does not own a gun, so couldn't use some of the arguments he suggests. But much of the article discusses how to discuss any political issue with someone who is emotionally attached to the other side. For that reason I have bookmarked it. A lot of very nasty discussions around here by many of us would be more productive if we used some of these techniques.

Excellent piece here. So many of us don't really grasp the gun-hating mentality. Lots of good material here.

LOL, not being a rich white anglo, I can't say I know from experience, but I'll believe you.
Still don't see that as ethnic bashing. I appreciated the article and its being posted.

It's a good article but all the examples of people opposed to gun control that he cited were Jews or Blacks and he made it a point to make note of that. Liberal ideology on this issue is wrong no matter where it comes from.
To: College Repub
She was simply acknowledging that Black and Jewish organizations reflexively support gun control. And as Prof. John Lott has pointed out, groups such as these are the ones that see the greatest benefit from firearms ownership. Their anti-gun positions are thus illogical and based upon irrational emotions and psychological defense mechanisms. This was the whole point of the article; that many anti-gun people are not basing their views upon objective reasoning, but rather on emotions and fears. And by no means is she implying that all Blacks or all Jews are anti-gun. Groups such as CORE or Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership contradict such a view. (And since she cites an article from JPFO, she's obviously aware that such groups exist!)

As one poster pointed out, this is not only a profitable article for defending our beliefs about the 2nd Amendment, but for any strongly held beliefs.
I believe the fact that Police are not legally required to defend your life speaks volumes.
Long read; yes. But well worth it.

Thanks for the good post. I 'booked' it for a later read. Time to CCW a 9mm and go to work.
