Bush Is Most Admired Man in Gallup Poll's History

Americans admire President Bush the most of any man since the Gallup Poll began asking in 1948.

When the USA Today/CNN/Gallup Poll asked respondents to name the living man they admired most, 39 percent chose Bush. Last year, Pope John Paul II and then-president Bill Clinton tied for first place with a mere 6 percent.

"Typically, the president wins, but the president doesn't usually dominate. That's why this 39 percent is unusual," said Frank Newport, editor in chief of The Gallup Poll.

Bush's successful war on terrorism is responsible for his popularity, Newport said in today's edition of USA Today. "You've got a president who, in this time of crisis, has rallied the country. This is the classic rally effect."

Stephen Hess, a presidential scholar at the Brookings Institution, thinks "quite remarkable" numbers are more than a mere rally effect. If the poll, conducted in mid-December, "had been taken on Sept. 12th, you could in a sense dismiss it. It would be a rally-round-the-flag issue. But when it is taken three months later, it factors in performance as well as symbolism."

Should Senate plurality leader Tom Daschle and his fellow obstructionist Democrats worry?

"George W. Bush has the bully pulpit, and ... this is a huge vote of confidence for the way he has used it," Hess said.

First lady Laura Bush was the most admired woman, with 12 percent. Her predecessor, Sen. Hillary Clinton, trailed in second at 8 percent.

The previous record for men was set by John Kennedy, who received 32 percent in 1961, the end of his first year as president. The overall record was set in 1963, when Jacqueline Kennedy received 60 percent the month after her husband was assassinated.

Surprising that the liberal Brookings Institution is not dismissing Bush's approval as a fluke or unrelated to performance.

Wow. And I just watched CNN's political idiot tell us how Bush's poll numbers are suffering because of his weak domestic agenda (although he seems to have won every domestic political battle).

Yes and even worse, it is an indicator of how many mentally sick people are roaming around America under the guise of being liberals!

There is nothing this woman can do to turn off her cult! From joy hugging Arafatty's wife, to taking campaign money from terrorist supporting Arabs and lying aboutit , to her mentally ill behavior after 9/11. None of us will forget her behavior when GW made his speech post 9/11! That was given at a time, when we did not know what was going to happen to us as a nation and a people.

Then there was the heigh of her mentally illness, her appearance at the dinner honoring the firemen and policemen of NYC who died in 9/11. There, she got the boing that she has deserved for all of her public appearances.

Yet the mentally ill Kool Aid slurping voting cult of the demoniCrats are in full lust support for this criminal! Their support of her and her fellow leech, X42, by the mentally ill people who support her without a waiver is very, very scary!

That was Bill "I'm an idiot" Schneider saying that ONLY 61% approval for Bush's "policies" indicates they are still "controversial".

Of course,at a previous time,61% approval of Clinton's job as president was overwhelming support.

In the car yesterday my kids were dragging out bragging rights...my oldest son thinking back to the one time he got to see the President...My daughter promptly shot back that she not only got to see him TWICE, but got to shake his hand. ;-) Of course, Dad had to trump them both, reminding them that I had the pleasure of having a short meeting with him during the campaign...hehehe..

They both have some signs and memorabilia that are signed by him, and they are treasured by my children. Their favorite is a signed Bush card (like a baseball card). Considering his history in major league baseball, it's kind of neat.
