More color photos of the North Korean spy ships' Christmas machine gunning and RPG-missile firing against the Japanese Coast Guard, in a major shooting/sinking incident in the East China Sea (largely unnoticed by world media and here on FR, but the first time since World War II Japan was involved in hostilities against an enemy power on the sea).
Major event with major reprecussions.

North Korean spy ship, fleeing after delivering smuggled drugs into Japan for foreign currency. So was it a spy ship or a drug runner? There is a big difference.

The crew were trained as spies, who also carry out drug export programs crafted by North Korean leadership. Their interlocutors in Japan are members of the Chosen Soren North Korean underground spy community. A mixture of both.

largely unnoticed by world media and here on FR There must be about 10 threads about this incident.

The media coverage was minimal. I'm hearing longer, more detailed leading reports about this guy's death.
Nigel Hawthorne resides in the county Hertfordshire with his long-time partner, writer Trevor Bentham. He does a lot of charity work, especially in regards to small theatre companies, organizations securing the welfare of children, medical research and humanitarian aid. He has also taken upon himself several responsibilities in his county, where he was recently appointed Deputy Lieutenant. On a more personal note, he enjoys staying in shape, he likes long walks (which I'm sure is popular in regards to his handful of dogs) and also enjoys swimming and a good game of tennis. He is also a vegetarian.
His portrayal of Sir Humphrey Appleby in the BBC political satire "Yes [Prime] Minister" in the 1980's was what won him international acclaim. Currently, he is best known for his role of George III in "The Madness of King George", which he performed both on stage and film, and for which he earned several awards. Hawthorne has starred in numerous acclaimed films, among them "Richard III" and "Twelfth Night".

USA/Terrorism, Israel/Palestine, India/Pakistan, Japan/N Korea ..... is it me, or is the World inching to a climatic catastrophe?

Thanks for the post...BTW, we haven't heard much about the perpetual famine in DNK this year, probably because of all that's going on elsewhere in the world, but the country has to be imploding.

So was it a spy ship or a drug runner? There is a big difference. As with most things in the news, time will tell. Did you read the BBC article?
To: Straight Vermonter
There is no evidence of drug delivery.

Initial reports on FR indicated after the NK ship was sunk the survivors were left adrift because the Japs feared they had weapons in the water with them. Have you seen any reports addressing the rescue attempts or lack thereof ?
Regards and a late Merry Christmas and early happy New Year.

Why is Nigel Hawthorne item posted re: DPRK Spy Ship?
To: AmericanInTokyo
Looks like a coordinated attempt to start a world war to me. This is all terrorist backed. It's time for Japan to re-enter the world as a military powerhouse since obviously the Chinese can't contain the N. Koreans.

He's getting wider, more extensive news coverage than the ship incident. It's a reflection of what America's leftist media thinks important.

The crew probably committed suicide (as SOP for this type of mission). None of them had life jackets on. There was also an explosion which seemed to confirmed they caused something in order to destroy their ship's contents.

A few dog eating commie's headed for their reward.

I would bet this was a drug delivery.
My reasoning: I remember the Soviet "trawlers" off the end of the runway at Andersen AFB on Guam. They were literally covered with antennas of all types. The NK ship in the photos appears to have nothing more than the masts (cranes?) fore and aft. No antennas in sight.
Of course, I'm not a spook. Maybe they have come up with a way to hide antennas. The above is just an observation.

I think you're right and I'll bet Bush and co. are keeping close tabs on where all this leads back to (China).

I lived in Seoul Korea in 1973-4. Don't know how many times I went to eat and know I had dog in them thar tacos.

This type of ship has served as the 'mother ship' for smaller rubber craft used for the actual landings. The drug sold is amphetamine, (through the Yakuza which are in cahoots with Pyongyang).
One item in your favor in your observation is that the craft did depart the port city of Nanpo on the west coast (which is primarily DPRK military and not the east coast ports traditionally used by agent craft under the orders of the Korean Workers' Party (KWP).

Maybe in our eyes, but maybe in the eyes of the Japanese, they don't belabor the difference. Might go a long ways into getting other countries to police their own people a little more closely.
