AIDS Activist Undergoes Liver Transplant Surgery
Houston Chronicle ^ | December 24, 2001

PITTSBURGH -- AIDS activist, author and playwright Larry Kramer underwent liver transplant surgery and was listed in serious condition Monday.

Kramer's doctors said his condition was improving and was about where it should be after the 12-hour surgery Friday.

Kramer, 66, spent seven months on the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center's waiting list. He moved to Pittsburgh in early November to wait for an organ to become available. While many transplant centers oppose the surgery for HIV-positive patients, UPMC's Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute has performed 10 liver transplants on HIV-positive patients since 1997. Eight of the patients have survived. Kramer's HIV has been relatively well controlled, but he suffered from end-stage liver failure caused by hepatitis B.

"...Oh, that is much clearer..."

See!

That wasn't so hard, was it?

"...Oh, that is much clearer. [/end sarcasm]..."

Oh.

I thought that you were coming around, wanting to be normal.

My bad.

"...Still waiting for your definition of stalking on FreeRepublic..."

We've completed a rough draft of the document, but we're having a little trouble finding someone strange enough to translate it into your native tongue.

Bear with us.

We ran it by Koko, the talking gorilla, and she signed the words: 'Stalking thing Peeper do', which we're interpreting to mean that Koko regards your entire approach to posting to be a sort of 'Stalking Handbook'.

Stand by for further developments as they occur…

"...However, I will patiently wait for your definition..."

You know, I really appreciate that!

So many weird people, skulking and stalking around like liver-vampires, are in such a hurry these days...

It's 'hurry up here' and 'hurry up there'... 'I've only got a four hour pass from the insane asylum', or 'Don’t you know what sunlight will do to me?' they'll say, expecting you to just drop everything and get right on whatever pet project they've got going.

But you're willing to cut old DWSUWF some slack on time!

You're a sport.

"...Given the difficulty of the task (i.e., drafting a definition of stalking that fits my non-stalking behavior), I figured that you needed some extra time..."

Do you know what you just did?

You said, "...I figured that you needed some extra time..."!

You didn't say, "...I determined...", "...I concluded..." or "...I resolved..."!

This is Big Stuff Peep...

REGULAR GUYS use words like 'figured' (or, 'figgered') in sentences just like that one!

OK... It's back to work on that project for you with me!

Hmmm...

I also noticed a certain cyclicality to Peep's postings...

A period of frenetic 'stalkenposten' (as the Germans say) followed by a curious absence.

I thought that he might be going off-thread to devour livers...

But now you've got me wondering...

So I asks my wife, who is a professor of medicine, "Honey, are hepititis B patients normally eligible for liver transplants?"

Her, tentatively: "Yeah."

Me: "Even if they are HIV positive . . .?"

Her: "No."

Me: "And 66-years old?"

Her, emphatically: "Oh, God . . . NO!!!"

Whoever authorized this transplant should be sacked.

Your conversation is hilarious! You should turn it into a play/movie, along the lines of My Dinner with Andre.:)
