The current line from Washington is that the anthrax pestilence responsible for killing five people and making millions more anxious about the daily mail may have been home-grown.
A White House spokesman says evidence indicates that the anthrax may have originated from a domestic source. But spokesman Ari Fleischer came across as less than convincing.
"We're still looking," said Fleischer. "We've all got different feelings about it. We're gathering as much information (as possible)." Though he promised information about the probe would be released at the appropriate time, there is no reason to expect that investigators will be any closer to an answer next month.
Put simply, if they are looking for the source of the anthrax terror campaign in the United States, they are probably looking in the wrong place. A growing number of terrorism experts, from acclaimed consultant and author Yossef Bodansky of the Freeman Center for Strategic Studies to former Israeli intelligence operative William Northrop to author Elliot Goldenberg, say they have good reason to believe the road lined with anthrax spores leads straight to Baghdad.
Indeed, if the anthrax came from Saddam Hussein's suspected biochemical weapons program, which Goldenberg believes was aided by the U.S. government to offset the spread of radical Islamism, primarily from Iran, then the U.S. is unlikely to have the will to do anything about it.
Here's why. CNN reported a few days ago that former Iranian President Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said if the U.S. persists in maintaining its alliance with Israel, it risks "starting World War III."
Despite what Islamic countries indicate publicly, "Anti-Jewishness and anti-Judaism constitute a major political instrument in the hands of both state governments and Islamic terrorist organizations to mobilize the entire region for the destruction of Israel -- irrespective of diplomatic treaties, including the current peace process," Bodansky wrote.
It's the same line of information that U.S. Naval Intelligence analyst Jonathan Pollard warned the Israelis about over and over again in the mid-1980s. Though the files that Pollard passed to Israel are still classified, he is the reason the Israeli public began building sealed rooms and stocking gas masks.
Instead of constructing nuclear bomb shelters, as were common in the U.S. during the Cold War, Israeli citizens began building air-tight rooms when documents that Pollard smuggled to their government showed Iraq was steeped in developing weapons of mass destruction.
Pollard, a Jew who grew up in South Bend, felt compelled to furnish Israel with intelligence vital to its security because higher-ups in U.S. intelligence were withholding the information, in spite of the 1983 U.S.-Israel Exchange of Information Agreement. The documents included satellite photos detailing Iraq's burgeoning biochemical weapons program.
"It was Pollard's information, according to my sources, that caused Israel to be on alert over what Saddam Hussein had and was ready to use," said Goldenberg, author of The Hunting Horse. "By the way, the Scuds (missiles) that landed in Tel Aviv were not carrying biochemical weapons. And I believe maybe some of them (that landed) in Saudi Arabia did have biochemical warheads."
If true, that means American GIs who fought during the Gulf War were exposed to biochemical weapons, which Pollard received a life sentence for warning the Israeli government about years earlier.
As everyone knows by now, Pollard was right about Iraq's budding biochemical weapons program. According to The New York Times, in August 1998, United Nations weapons inspectors discovered evidence that Iraq had at one time nearly 200 missiles and bombs with various biochemical warheads, including Botulinum toxin, Aflatoxin and anthrax.
Before scurrying out of town Thursday for Christmas, the House, in a joint resolution passed 392-12, demanded that Iraq allow weapons inspectors back in. Don't hold your breath.

Is this why current President GW Bush has been slow to go after Iraq for anthrax and other weapons of mass destruction Iraq has because his father, former President Bush heplped Iraq acquire them??
Former President Bush personally was involved in the approval of hundreds of dual use export licenses by the US COmmerce department for nuclear technology for Iraq. I saw and heard Congressman Sam Gonzales read from these Bush persoanlly approved export licenses on the floor of Congress shortly before the Gulf War.
There is also mounting evidence that former President Bush gave neutron bomb technology to the CHinese who are close allies of Iraq.
There is evidence that the Chinese have helped Iraq research and possibly acquire a suitcase (baseball size)neutron bomb capability. China and possibly Iraq can and may have given nuclear bombs (suitcase sized conventianal fissile and high energy neutron nuclear devices) to AlQaeda and Bin Laden for terrorists to bring into the US and us agasint US citizens and infrastructure targets.
The FBI is currently searching the US for nuclear devices believed to have been bought into the US with Iraqi, Chinese and/or AlQaeda participation.

This is mostly propaganda. I am for Israel, but POLLARD IS A CONVICTED SPY. Isreal is pushing BS because they want to free him as his reward.
I agree that IRAQ is the source as they have the same stains of Anthrax as the US. However their Intelligence is making overtures - they know this is the last chance. Guess they knew popa Bush would chicken out. Therefore Israel wants to knock out IRAQ before Jr gets a chance to back out.
I think we should make a deal with IRAQ and have them give us the terrorist data they promised, destroy all their missles, bombs etc , then turn on him and oust him for a moderate - no war just normal political treatchery (like the Dems)
The FBI is LOOKING HAHHAHAAH. Ther AEC has trucks at all time patrolling major cities looking for signs of radio activity. The Feebes will not find anything. The cause of Gulf War Syndrome.
I am glad the dragnet stopped a lot of people. But the FBI and DOJ warnings persist because they are not confident they have found everyone (people still here associated with the 9/11 groups)) that can launch further attacks using explosives, chemicals, biologicals (small pox is still on the radar screen) and nuclear devices. It is not just me or Jim Patterson who is warning the public about this, it is Aschcroft, the DOJ, Mueller and the FBI.
The others who were here before 9/11 and are still here are 5 AlQaeda cells ( identified by Wash Post piece by Bob Woodward), three Abu Nidal cells and countless Hamas cells (OKC also) in the US that the FBI has deliberately still not moved against for political reasons. These groups can pick and chose when they may strike next. Do not take comfort yet from the relative quite and calm we have currently. Our own government is warning us there is more to come.
And there is the specter of more immigrants coming into the US that were not here on 9/11 but are here now or who will be here soon. There were several articles on FR about Syrian and Saudi pilots being allowed to go to Dallas flight schools under questionable circumstances well after 9/11. The borders with Mexico and Canada are not secure enough yet and even Aschroft has said that.

As for weapons of mass destruction, Pakistan, that supported the Taliban, has them. Israel has them and is not shy to threaten their use, both against all Arabs and any other country they may suspect of "not helping them enough".
As for Iraq, they are one of the most secular countries there. They have regional ambitions, who doesn't?
I was crucified by the Reagan/Bush and former Bush adminstrations and the FBI for my refusal of their insistance I work on a project involving the direct transfer of SDI and nuclear technology to Russian scientists at Kirtland AFB and also at Los Alamos in the 1980s.
At one time I was a project engineer for Admiral Rickover for the Trident submarine nuclear power plant. I have done PHD work on nuclear fusion and have several inventions/patents in that area.
The FBI and CIA also facilitated not only the transfer of the neutron bomb to the CHinese but also of SDI technology to the Chinese at Kirtland AFB as well. The FBI/CIA and former President Bush betrayed their own Army Intelligence over this matter.
If I were Israel I would not trust GW Bush to adequately protect Israel. Like his father, GW Bush could not only betray his own loyal and patriotic Christian countrymen (myself) and but also Jews and the state of Israel.
Remember that on 9/11, Sec of State Colin Powell was to have addressed the UN to propose a Palestinian State and to propose that the PLO take control of those parts of Jerusalem having Christian Holy sites. GW BUSH endorsed this plan of Powell which betrayed not only Christains but also the state of Isreal. Bush had not even consulted with Israeli officials before the speech was to have been given even though he had consulted with European and Arab leaders on his proposal beforehand.
I believe that GW Bush's betrayal of Christians and Israel planned on 9/11 before the UN was put on hold as a result of the terror atttacks (I do not condone the terror attacks, they were evil and wrong). Bush does not understand that Jerusalem shall be a cup of trembling and a burdesnome stone for all those who deal treacherously with her and against God's plans (according to what my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ has said in the Bible).
For the CIA/FBI/ Bush goons out there-I have never communicated any secret or confidential nuclear or military matters to any Israeli or any representative of Isreal or Russia or China or any foreign nation even though members of my own government have done so illegally numerous times.

Russia and Putin I noticed warned the US recently not to take any action against the Russian client state of Iraq.
