Three arrested in shooting spree tied to Klamath water war

Friday, December 21, 2001

By Associated Press

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — Three white men were arrested and accused of taunting Native Americans and firing shotguns at signs and buildings during an hour-long spree stemming from a conflict over scarce water supplies.

Witnesses said the men drove through the town of Chiloquin in a pickup on Dec. 1, yelling, "Sucker lovers!" — a reference to fish considered sacred by the Klamath Tribes. Chiloquin, a town of about 800, is home to the offices of the Klamath Tribes.

"To be doing this, to me, is really an act of terrorism," Sheriff Tim Evinger said. "I consider it to be terrorizing an entire community."

Earlier this year, the government sharply reduced the flow of irrigation water to more than 1,000 farms to help protect suckers and salmon. Farmers grew angry as their fields dried up.

Wow. The Media is trying to make this a "hate crime." And that would mean people protesting inane environmental regulations are also committing hate crimes. Pretty scary.

Hey Tim. Remember the day when you said that it would be a royal pain in the ass to ask the feds to step off because it would push your guys in to an uncomfortable position? I do.

Remember it was the same day as when a Confidential Informant rode over from the headgates to the fed side and told them all about the next days planned events? I do.

Remember who the CI was? I do.

Remember when you went up to the rangers and whispered in their ears? I do.

Remember when you showed up three hours late after the farmers took the gates, again? I do.

Remember when I asked you and Sheriff Mack asked you if you knew you were in charge and what would you do? I do.

Remember when I told you about a former Klamath cop who was being frozen out by the city? I do.

Do us all a favor Tim and try to work on forgetting.

But...this pissant sheriff stood by and watched as the Fed Gov TERRORIZED 1400 AMERICAN FAMILIES by denying them water.

Uh oh. They'll be in line for monetary compensation from the feds next thing, for being terrorism victims.

Lets keep it straight, even if we support the farmers we can't support "firing shotguns at signs and buildings". Just because their cause is just doesn't give them a blank check to act recklessly.

Be safe out there. The Sopranos are targeting "illegal" trucks running between Green River and SLC.

You might get caught watching a rerun while the "bad guys" are sweeping your rig.

Man. I miss the west...

Nobody is supporting a bunch of drunks from Bonanza shooting up Chiloquin during the day.

Have you been there?

Whatever happened to that Park Ranger who pulled a gun on a protester. Anybody remember that?

I was there. Sheriff Evinger is a liar. I watched him tell the Feds to stand their ground while he kept his deputies back.

The only people who cared enough to do something were Stan and Barb and now they are being kept back by TRO's mandated by Oregon.

The truth is that Stan should have done what he said he would do.

"The truth is that Stan should have done what he said he would do."

I will never forget the pathetic thread that day. Some of us Freepers started freakin out about Stan and saying stuff like "he's not even a farmer, just a retired railroad conductor!" It took all afternoon and evening, clear into the next day tryin to calm down some on that thread that got down-right hysterical with worry over what Stan might possibly do!

The nail that even thinks about stickin up, gets hammered down, every time! Even here on the great FreeRepublic.com!!!
