"You got me plum-hypnotized," Elmer Gantry says to Sister Sharon Falconer in that film/novel.
Is that the case with me over Joyce Meyer?
She seems pretty good at down-home preachin'. And while not a classic beauty, she yet ministers out a fair amount sex appeal, along with the word.
(I think, ultimately, it's those Texas/Missouri eyes.)
I post this to philosophy since, as I know she has a fair amount of, at least internet detractors, it yet seems that her ability to project the Word, is as anchored in the integrity of faith as any other TV preacher I can recall.
...Except perhaps the late Bishop Fulton J Sheen.
In short though, Meyer lately fascinates me, and I'm curious what other Freepers may think. Particularly Evangelicals!
Thanks, and Merry Christmas to All!

Oh, it's a business, to be sure. I started out on this with an allusion to Sinclair Lewis'
Elmer Gantry"But I believe. I really believe!"

I think I know what you mean by "immature Christians," but I'm not sure that is the case with Joyce. Some are called to be "DEEEEP" Bible scholars, like Fred Price, Ken Copeland, etc.
I'm always hestitant to question someone's "depth" of understanding because we don't know what a person's ANOINTING is. She is clearly anointed to reach people with the "faith" message who have never been around charismatics, so in that sense she is indeed an "intro" level. But she clearly reaches people who otherwise would not get reached, and that is never bad.

Do YOUR homework. The Word says that "he who has ears, let him hear." Obviously you are not ready to hear some things.

To all:
I misread Algone's comments and publicly retract my comments to him. He is basically right on in what he said. Don't know what I was reading.

Perhaps, but perhaps you should take joyce's advice and control your temper and not call other beleivers full of crap. Perhaps you will have enough faith when you get sick to be healed. Perhaps the faith teachers will someday have enough faith to be healed so they don't have to wear glasses on tv when they read, or continue to lose hair. Perhaps someday the average income of those who follow health and wealth will catch up to the general population. All I know is the God of the Bible is not some impetent santa claus who must obey what we can visualize in our minds. I may choose to turn off a light switch, but let me guarentee you something, If God doesn't want it turned off it ain't going off! If you beleive Jesus died for your sins then praise God. I'll explain rightly dividing the word to you in heaven.

And perhaps you should take Joyce's advice and develop some humility. As for healing, how do you know I haven't done that? As for wealth, how do you know my financial position? I can tell you that Fred Price gives 25% of his income to his ministry. Do you tithe that much?
As for the power switch, sorry, you are wrong. God CANNOT "make" someone be "born again." If He could, Jesus would not have had to die and rise. That invalidates your whole little construct that God "can do anything He wants." God said that He "magnified His WORD even above His name," meaning that He cannot break His own promises, because then He would be like us. The Word says "Is God a man, that He should lie?" So I guess God can't do "anything," can He? He can't lie.
As for your little snip (envy? anger?) about people wearing glasses, with humans there is only so much time and energy. Faith does take energy and focus. To me, it's far easier to go to a dentist to get a filling than it is to fight the fight of faith on THAT ISSUE. But the bottom line is if you are right, the God is a liar because He said "With [Jesus'] stripes ye were healed," and He said His name is Jehovah the healing God. But you knew all that, right, because you can rightly divide the Word.

But the bottom line is if you are right, the God is a liar because He said "With [Jesus'] stripes ye were healed," Like I said rightly divide the Word. Read 1Peter 2:24 and the passages around it to get context. You will see it has NOTHING to do with physical healing. Not that God doesn't still miraculously heal. Just know what you are quoting. Now look, you got me doing what I didn't want to end up doing.

I like Joyce alot. I stumble onto her broadcasts most times by accident....she's on so early (5:30 am) where I live.
I find her "sermons" to be real and based in the real world. I hope God continues to bless her.
IMHO: She's a keeper!!

You sound like a true bible believer...nobody rightly divides THE BOOK anymore, they wrongly divide it.

And I was wrong to assume you hadn't publicly posted. I apologize.
There. That wasn't too hard.

Not trying to be hard on Joyce but just thinking out loud a bit and longing for the days when Christianity will be more about worshiping God and helping others than about not blowing up when we don't get our own way and living our life just to meet our own needs.
This, and a serious doctrine of satan are two reasons I stay away from the Word of Faith and anyone willing to claim their cause.
They have preached a self-gain philosophy.
I admit though that I am not sure if Joyce is like that but she is guilty by willful association.
MY QUESTION:
If anyone if for Joyce, give me a quick post on if you have a dual working household.
Please

"Joyce Meyer? She is OK but her message seems to be more based on psychology than on the Word of God."The truth is unified. True psychology has to agree with the Word of G-d and vice versa. Right?

I have tried to listen to her, but for the life of me, I can't! She just sounds so much like Ann Richards!

A facelift?
Say it ain't so, Joyce!
How intriguing, your screen name. Do you know the use of Rubicon in Emily Dickinson lore?

Powder..Patch..Ball FIRE!!!She is totally NEW AGE in her doctrine. She's biblically ignorant and those who follow her are the same. If you like these new age "motivational speakers" then more power to ya, but for bible truths, she's a blank.
I worked for Joyce's ministry for 3 and a half years and you should get a clue before you speak... It is better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than open it and prove to all that you are one....
To: BallandPowder
Really? Do you believe she really believes?

#75: Wouldn't the truth lie in the message though?
(One guesses that could be taken two ways.)
