"You got me plum-hypnotized," Elmer Gantry says to Sister Sharon Falconer in that film/novel.
Is that the case with me over Joyce Meyer?
She seems pretty good at down-home preachin'. And while not a classic beauty, she yet ministers out a fair amount sex appeal, along with the word.
(I think, ultimately, it's those Texas/Missouri eyes.)
I post this to philosophy since, as I know she has a fair amount of, at least internet detractors, it yet seems that her ability to project the Word, is as anchored in the integrity of faith as any other TV preacher I can recall.
...Except perhaps the late Bishop Fulton J Sheen.
In short though, Meyer lately fascinates me, and I'm curious what other Freepers may think. Particularly Evangelicals!
Thanks, and Merry Christmas to All!
This is true. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life . . . and the Truth shall set you free, indeed. The Holy Spirit leads His people into freedom, never bondage. We do that to ourselves.
Yee Ha! I like cowboys, HA!
I do like to listen to her when I get the chance. Like others here, I think she is down to earth in her message.
Down to earth?
$2 million dollar facility?.
Mt 8:20
And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
Isn't is great that we are all different in so many ways..ie, physically, emotionally and spiritually... yet God can use us for His Purpose, anyway? *wink*
Blessings!
1 Blessed are all who fear the LORD, who walk in his ways.
2 You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours.
Proverbs 11
25 A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.
Proverbs 13
21 Misfortune pursues the sinner, but prosperity is the reward of the righteous.
Usually with numbers and variables.
Though seriously, while compelled by the Judeo-Christian ethic, I rather like the way Meyer struts her stuff. I like her gruff voice, her twang and those Texas/Missouri eyes. The way she carries herself....
It was a woman who realized Christ's mission even before his disciples did.
I can't think of any other man in those terms. Preach to me, Joyce.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding you but I PROFOUNDLY disagree with the above. This type of theology opens up a pandora's box or error. One could say maybe God made a mistake when He said have no gods before me; or he may have made a mistake when He said one should not committ adultery, so I'll have an affair; Maybe He made a mistake when He said Jesus is the only way. It will cause people to pick and choose what they like and dislike. I would encourage one to reexamine this theology. Let me just tell you God is omniscient and made ABSOLUTLEY no mistakes!
Whew! You've been listening to Hagin and Copeland way too much...
Judas carried the purse but anyone can carry an empty wallet. I do all the time.
You can't prove what was in the purse anymore than I,but this scripture keeps coming to mind....
Mt 6:19
¶ Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
Mt 6:20
But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
Mt 6:21
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Some how I think it quite symbolic that Judas carried the purse.
Most modern day Judas' are also equally occupied with mammon.
God is referred to as "perfect" in the scriptures. Perfect, meaning without flaw or blemish. You may choose to believe that God is an errant God if that is your choice. The sin and disobedience of man is the reason He sent Christ. Not because He messed us. Because man did.
I like her it's what we need to get and then get over quickly. I have seen what people call the name it and clain it crowd and she does not seem to fit in with them.
It seems that in the CHristian church at present all we can seem to do is argue and bicker when we get our feelings hurt or our theology does not %100 match up with someone else's. How pathetic we are at times
Anyway
God Bless

Put simply, one's riches must be under the Lordship of Christ. If they are, they are indeed a blessing. Not only to the person in question, but to the community he/she belongs to. If the riches are not under the Lordship of Christ, they are a curse, in that they tend to keep one from crying out to God.
