NOT THAT IT MATTERS a whit to us here in the cool, gray city of love what Frank Lindh, daddy of the Taliban warrior from Marin, does, did or dreams of doing with other consenting adults, but shouldn't he come clean with us about all the facts in the odd odyssey of his son?
Frank Lindh has been quoted time and again as saying it was his son John's reading of the "Autobiography of Malcolm X" when John was 16 in 1997 that turned his son's head and heart towards Islam. But something else then going on in the family's life may be have been just as pertinent.
When Frank Lindh left his family in 1997, it was to move in with a male companion. Yep. ... The man with whom Lindh lived has since been described as "a family friend," but other family friends say the men lived as a gay couple.
It would take a specialist in family issues to map the constellations of feelings and problems that would describe John Walker's path toward Islam in 1997, but sources close to the family say the father's turn of life from married man to modern gay man startled and flustered the 16-year-old.
Given the pummeling that the Walkers and marvy Marin County have taken from the national press over their wayward son, you can't blame the old man for wanting to suppress reporting on his sexuality. ...

The Catholic League stated on their website several days ago, and sourced it that the father IS NOT a Catholic and left the Church "some time ago".

I had never heard about Powells daughter either. Does anyone else know if this is true or not?
To: Gimlet

This may explain why the young Walker refused to use his father's name. It's ONLY about sex! (/sarcasm) Of course it matters to a 16 year old who and what your father sleeps with. Even if it had been another woman. But when your father had rather have another man instead of your mother, IT MATTERS!

get over it. this little traitor carried an ak47 against our marines. Not so. Shoot him as an America hating terrorist, but he never saw an American soldier or CIA man in Afghanistan until he was dragged out of the cellers of the fort in Mazar, and he did not have an AK on him when he emerged into the sunlight to meet the two CIA men.
BTW, the nearest marines are in Khandahar, hundreds of miles from Mazar.

And the thing is the whole time the FATHER doesn't take any responsibility!!! Oh it was THAT BOOK that turned him to the Taleban, it wasn't MY LIFESTYLE, he conveniently forgot to mention THAT!

they didn't interfere when once he announced at 16 that he was going to drop out of Tamiscal High School - the elite ''alternative'' school where
students determined their own course of study and only saw a teacher once a week.
For as long as he could remember, his oh-so-progressive parents had answered ''yes'' to his every whim, indulged his every fancy, permitted - even praised - his every passion. The only thing they insisted on was that nothing be insisted on. Nothing in his life was important enough for them to make an issue of: not his schooling, not his religion, not his appearance, not even whether he stayed in America or moved - while still a minor - to a benighted Third World oligarchy halfway around the world. Nothing. Except, of course, their right to call him by the name of their favorite Beatle.
Devout practitioners of the self-obsessed nonjudgmentalism for which the Bay Area is renowned, Lindh and Walker appear never to have rebuked their son or criticized his choices. In their world, there were no absolutes, no fixed truths, no mandatory behavior, no thou-shalt-nots. If they had one conviction, it was that all convictions are worthy - that nothing is intolerable except intolerance.

According to FOX News Johnny's Dad hired an expensive lawyer and the guy has been FAX bombing every news outlet in the country with whiny, sympathetic spin-jobs every day. This is obviously an attempt to win support in the local San Fran gay community.

Capitol Grilling just removed the thread about this, btw. LOL, guess the *owner* zeroflux doesn't like stuff about gays that put gays in a bad light....

So true!

I'm not. It was probably an attempt to generate sympathy for the poor 'boy' </sarcasm> whose fall into terrorism was the product of a dysfunctional family. I'm sure if they can pull this one into a civil court these revelations will be used to explain how he was made vulnerable to outside influence, blah blah blah.
This is probably part of the family's lawyer's plan of attack on winning sympathy for the scumbag. 'He couldn't help it,' they will say.

I bet if he had become a member of the NRA and GOP his parents would object... there was bound to be a line drawn at that.

Actually, you know, we win either way on this. They will use the gay excuse here. And because of that he will gain a lot people's sympathy, even us right wingers.
BUT, here's the smoking howitzer (as savage says), they say poor johnny, screwed up because his father is gay....well, they'll save Johnny Jihad's life, HOWEVER gay rights, marriage adoption, even the dems in california, well, it WILL be doomsay!
I'm predicting that right now. And we WILL have a repub governor next time because of this case...mark my words!!

Not so. Shoot him as an America hating terrorist, but he never saw an American soldier or CIA man in Afghanistan until he was dragged out of the cellers of the fort in Mazar, and he did not have an AK on him when he emerged into the sunlight to meet the two CIA men. He also picked up a weapon AFTER the revolt, and participated in the revolt, according to his own words. Whether he got a hit in on the CIA guy or not I don't know, but evidently he was right up front when all hell broke loose.

That little piece of crap had better "fall" off that boat over there. I'm getting damn sick and tired of all these leadin stories being written to prep us for his eventual release with no charges or trial.
This is BS. Lose the turd, Navy. Or why the hell should we continue to cough up taxes and pretend the stupid government does anything right? If they can't do justice with this guy, then they just can't do justice at all.
To: Hank Rearden
It would have been better to turn him over to the Afghans as yet another foreigner. If we didn't want him, you can bet they would feel free to savor the moment.
He should definitely be turned over to the Indians once all is said and done- assuming the Afghans leave leftovers. India has a reason to be interested in him after he admitted to involvement in Kashmir.
