NOT THAT IT MATTERS a whit to us here in the cool, gray city of love what Frank Lindh, daddy of the Taliban warrior from Marin, does, did or dreams of doing with other consenting adults, but shouldn't he come clean with us about all the facts in the odd odyssey of his son?

Frank Lindh has been quoted time and again as saying it was his son John's reading of the "Autobiography of Malcolm X" when John was 16 in 1997 that turned his son's head and heart towards Islam. But something else then going on in the family's life may be have been just as pertinent.

When Frank Lindh left his family in 1997, it was to move in with a male companion. Yep. ... The man with whom Lindh lived has since been described as "a family friend," but other family friends say the men lived as a gay couple.

It would take a specialist in family issues to map the constellations of feelings and problems that would describe John Walker's path toward Islam in 1997, but sources close to the family say the father's turn of life from married man to modern gay man startled and flustered the 16-year-old.

Given the pummeling that the Walkers and marvy Marin County have taken from the national press over their wayward son, you can't blame the old man for wanting to suppress reporting on his sexuality. ...

We have doctrinal and faith differences but I firmly believe that IF they had really raised him in the church..the church would have given him the structure he needed.......it is a sad story..if it was a hit and run I would vote to free him.

Actually, it WAS reported, subtly, but it was reported. The first article I read about Johnnie Walker mentioned Mr. Walker and his housemate ....."

The first time I heard of this, it was reported by a fellow FReeper who had worked on a project with the father, and stated that he was light in the loafers. This was only a day or two after he was indentified. I will have to search to find the relevent info.

Not being homophobic here (and if I were I wouldn't know it or care): Johnny Al Quaieda (sic) was raised by parents who were uncertain about their own identitiy and they conveyed this...oh, so subtlely--but effectively---to their kid.) He's sittin' around being a typical introverted geek at age 16 and Dad waltzes in with his new boyfriend, says "bye-bye" to wife and the Children so he can go rump wrestle some guy on a "committed" basis.

Johnny or Akhmed orwhathisnameisnow must have done a doubletake concerning his own already dubious identity.

I could go on...my point is that there's sufficient data here from this "typical" lib family to indict the whole damn liberal mind-set (and those who adhere.)

It's not about a sexual thang that's someone's private bizness..it's about how liberal equivocation on all issues is not what it takes to raise a (healthy) child.

At the very least children neeed love, guidance and stability.

I agree with you. Perhaps he hated America more for its liberalism than his love of Islam. It's too bad he's from a narcissistic Clintonite family but he is still a traitor and should have to pay the max for what he did. His family are now sowing what they reaped.

I don't like the concept of political prisoners, but may have to get used to it. I would have him do three-to five and he after he got out, keep a close eye on him. I doubt that he will ever go straight now.A fitting punishment would be to strip him of citizenship and never let him enter the country again.

Now that you mention it, there is a certain weird symmetry in the case of a 16 year old leaving his own country and going to YEMEN, and that boy's father leaving his family and moving in with a MAN. From what I gathered, the father felt no real alarm when the son announced what he was going to do, as if it were all just to be taken in stride in this "highly irregular" family.

When evil is exposed for what it is, it should make all people of good will glad. The truth is what sets us fee. When more people know the truth about homosxuality and the tremendous problems it causes we will all be better off. Part of avoiding evil is knowing that it exists and being able to recognize it.
