I have felt for some time that the implant ID would first be offered for sale as a "benefit", rather than by government fiat. Next it will be used to track felons, then perhaps offered as a new form of credit card, then some supermarket will offer a 5% discount if you get a chip. If you get a security clearance your employer may require you to get one.

It's a natural for "smart gun" technology, too.

Eventually so many people will be chipped that it will be hard for unchipped people to do routine things like take books out of a public library or rent a video.

The military has fooled around with this idea using the Destron-Fearing chip- Timmy McVeigh said they had chipped him, remember?
