Arafat: I'm willing to sacrifice 70 to die to kill one Israeli

Israel Radio West Bank correspondent Avi Yissakharov reported this evening that Yasser Arafat declared in a fiery speech in Ramallah today that "all Palestinians are Muhammad al-Dura", that all Palestinians are martyrs. 12-year-old Muhammad al-Dura was killed in the Gaza Strip last year while his father tried to protect him from crossfire. Arafat called for all to join in the struggle to stop what he termed the Israeli program to Judaize Jerusalem. The crowd roared back to Arafat "millions of martyrs are already marching to Jerusalem." Israel Television Channel Two reported this evening that Arafat also told the crowd that "I am willing to sacrifice 70 martyrs to kill one Israeli" and called for a continuation of the struggle against Israel.

Clearly what you say here is a true statement. Mohammed Atta was Bin Laden's patriot. The audience that roared here are Arafat's, and vice versa. Gerry Adams has his fans.

As a dad, I still can't agree with you.

I imagine being in a similar position, with some Al Qeada fighters shooting in front of us, and some special forces Rangers behind us, my son and I against a wall, perhaps even with a protrusion we can partly hide behind.

Would I just get between my son and the Al Qeada forces? Heck no. I am all over him completely.

Perhaps he was a very uneducated man. However, it does seem that most people in the area, be they Israelis or Palestinians, are pretty experienced in the matters of gunplay. As such, I would think that he would have had at least some concern over ricochets, and as such I can't buy into the idea that he was protecting his kid in the way he thought best.

Doesn't sound to me like he's talking about peace. He's talking about sending women and children to die while he hides in his bunker. And it sounds like he just sent your big scheme up in smoke, as he's not even mentioning peace or coexistence with the Israelis. Sorry 'bout that.

Sounds to me like Arafat is using hyperbole and jingoism to build up his sagging approval ratings with the Palestinians.

Sounds to me like he is good at it. Sounds to me like the same kind of rhetoric you've been spouting.

The point is simple; tone down the rhetoric, clean up the lies, myths and half-truths. The Israelis once held the moral high ground. Right now they are in a bind to claim evens.

Looking at your posts for a few days back, I see none that were deleted. None.
