Arafat: I'm willing to sacrifice 70 to die to kill one Israeli
Independent Media Review & Analysis ^ | Date: 18 December 2001 | Aaron Lerner

Posted on 12/18/2001 10:10:19 AM PST by the_second_moon

Israel Radio West Bank correspondent Avi Yissakharov reported this evening that Yasser Arafat declared in a fiery speech in Ramallah today that "all Palestinians are Muhammad al-Dura", that all Palestinians are martyrs. 12-year-old Muhammad al-Dura was killed in the Gaza Strip last year while his father tried to protect him from crossfire. Arafat called for all to join in the struggle to stop what he termed the Israeli program to Judaize Jerusalem. The crowd roared back to Arafat "millions of martyrs are already marching to Jerusalem." Israel Television Channel Two reported this evening that Arafat also told the crowd that "I am willing to sacrifice 70 martyrs to kill one Israeli" and called for a continuation of the struggle against Israel.

But what it does do for me is make me wonder what is truth and what is a lie.
Veronica - You are going to sit there and tell me that you actually believe Arafat said this ?? Now everyone take a deep breath and ask yourselves - Does this sound logical ??

Its completely in keeping with Arafat's actions throughout his long, bloody career. I believe it.

In your next reincarnation (Georgia_Girl, Yale_Mascot, Wide & Wonderful, whatever), why not try providing some opinions, rather than these silly open ended questions.

It makes you wonder what is the truth and what is a lie? What difference does what you wonder make. I think Arafat said it. Why don't you formulate a yes or no opinion and post it like the white supremacists (in their case cut and paste it, you're smarter than that, you have opinions and an agenda) on the board do?

Gonna use Wide & Wonderful?

I found the picture on another thread. It speaks volumes.
Yes, it is amazing what Israel tolerates!

Regarding your major media coverage question - sorry, don't know the answer.

Then they die.

Actually then the kid died, the father survived and shortly thereafter participated in a press conference.

According to This The father was hit 8 times. I don't think anyone would be likely to survive 8 hits by a .50 BMG round, simply because at least one would hit bone and tear up lots of tissue, or hit something vital (organ or vein) directly. Eight AK rounds, all in the lower body, could be survivable. Assuming he was actually hit 8 times.

Interestingly the father being hit 8 times in the lower body indicates that whoever was shooting was shooting at the kid, who was in close proximity to his father's lower body at the time. If they'd been shooting at the father most of the hits would be higher up on his body as the shooter would tend to aim at the center of mass of his body.

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade - BUT

Please, Anthony. No showers in this polite company. Do that stuff home in Canada, if you must.

'You never know until you... yada, yada, yada, blah blah, woof woof'
Really kind of a nasty little jerk aren’t you? Does your acerbic style help prove your point somehow? More to the point, since you put this in quotes, can you show me where I said this? No, you can’t. My point is:
Normal parents instinctively protect their children.
It looks to me like he was trying to protect his child. He may not have done it the way you would, but in the confusion of a gunfight people don’t always know for sure where the fire is coming from, as evidenced by how he acted. When the fire was coming from the Israeli position, he was between his child and the fire. Look at a map of the shooting, such as on AlamoGirl’s report, linked above somewhere. That is the first image I posted.

He then seems surprised to see the fire coming from the other side. In the confusion of a battle “Its hard to know for sure” but it appears to me he was trying to protect his kid, and when the fire suddenly shifted he was no longer in position to do so. Maybe you have great experience protecting your kid in the midst of gunmen firing from all different directions, but in a real fire fight shit happens, and people make mistakes, get caught out of position, and bad things happen.

When you look at the order of battle, it appears to me he thought he had the kid protected. Thus, your judgment is harsh, not because a parent should work to protect his kid- I agree he should - but because this man likely thought he stood between his kid and the bullets. In short, it is not your compassion I criticize, though it is pathetic, but your analysis of the tactical situation, which is also suspect.

I'm Harsh that way.

Bet the little creep is kicking himself now for rejecting the 'Big Creep's' offer of Jerusalem.

Maybe he wants 'palestine' to be next on the list of whom to obliterate after we've finished with Afghanistan & El Queda?***
Keep America out of this one. Israel needs to learn to fight it's own battles.
Sure. Lets abandon Israel. We should have done the same in WWII. Why did we care what Hitler did with Europe? Or what Japan did in the Orient? Why do we care now what China does with Tiawan? Or what the Taliban do with Afghanistan? (Oh wait, bad example, since we have since learned why we care on the last one.)

In any case, why do we care if we allow a bunch of terrorists to force us to abandon a long time ally? Its not like they will then assume they can force us to do anything else, is it? They don’t have any more demands, do they?

BS. The only way he could have protected his son in that situation was to cover the kid with his own body, and he had time to do that.

It looks to me like they were trying to hide behind the barrel. I agree with you that covering the kid would have been better, but it seems a bit foolish to say he wasn't trying to protect him.

The barrel did indeed provide protection from some of the fire.

700,000 to 1, and he has a deal.

who would be the 1?

Let's start with Peres & Aloni. Then maybe we could send some "honorary Israelis" from here -- Clintons, Kennedys, Shumer, Feinstein, Boxer, etc. until they run out of Muslim Palestinians

Does he want to make Powell look a fool?

Does Powell need any help? He seems to be doing fine on his own.
