Maryland thinks MORE Gun Laws Will Solve Things....
Sunspot News ^ | December 17, 2001 | Daniel Webster

Edited on 09/03/2002 4:49:48 AM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

A RECENT study reported Maryland had the highest rate of handgun murders involving juveniles among the 50 states from 1995 through 1999. Some might take this as evidence that the state's gun laws are ineffective.

But there are several reasons why such a conclusion is premature, at best.

First, longstanding problems with gun violence led to the enactment of new gun control laws in Maryland. Our state ranks high in youth homicides because, compared with other states, its population is more urban and suffers from the many social ills of concentrated urban poverty.

Maryland politics are dominated by black Democrats in Baltimore. Look at any state or city where that happens, and you'll see fraud and violence.

This is the typical bs Marylanders have been sold under Glendening/Townsend. If you are a gun owner in Maryland you are more of a criminal than the criminal animals out in the streets!!!

"Daniel Webster is co-director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Policy and Research at the Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore."

This says it all. The Bloomberg School, by the way, is named for the Bloomberg who is now Mayor of NYC. The Center for Gun Policy and Research is rabidly anti-gun. I am an alumnus of JHU, but refuse to contribute to the university while they maintain this center.

A fellow *criminal* bump. I guess this makes my husband and I "double-dog" criminals because we gave our son a Winchester for his birthday. The good news is...Spendenning is leaving soon, but what's scary is...his cohort is waiting in the wings.

Daniel Webster --- not to be confused with America's famous lexicographer - writes as though another gun control law would finally fix what's wrong with Maryland's out of control crime problem. Yeah right. And even he acknowledges the state's law enforcement authorities haven't even enforced the gun control laws already on the books. As if they'll suddenly enforce them AFTER another law's been passed. Its not gun owners whose rights are under siege in Md that's the problem its criminals who are able to get guns DESPITE the laws on the books and knowing the sheeple are basically disarmed, go ahead and commit still more crimes. Of course we shouldn't hold our breath waiting for Webster and the John Hopkins University to finally get it right and demand that law enforcement go after the criminals not the state's beleagured gun owners. Look for liberals to ignore the REAL solutions to crime as usual...

its population is more urban and suffers from the many social ills of concentrated urban poverty.

This has become the new "P.C." word for black; why it is any better is beyond me; but, let's face it, that's what the authors means, why else would radio listings show rap-music stations as "urban?"

Why doesn't the NAACP complain about this?

Maryland is run by idiots. If they really wanted to reduce crime, they's repeal a bunch of "gun-control" laws, strating with their asinine and corrupt discretionary concealed carry of weapons laws, as well as their highly restrictive open carry laws. I'll know that has happened when I see Lucifer in the local ski shop.

I guess it's the place of the NAAUA (National Association for the Advancement of Urban Americans) to complain.
But maybe they're too busy with Urban American Owned Business Councils, Urban American Teachers Unions and Urban American Congressional Caucuses.

Maybe if you just extended the abortion laws in Maryland to included children up to the age of 18, there could be a quick reduction in scum youth violence.

It is all the evil guns fault. Really bad black guns shoot mean hate filled bullets. Ban the evil handguns and assault weapons! Ban them all!!! Register all the knives too!

Then those bad people won't have a single weapon to hurt someone with. Right? Yeah I believe it. (gag)

I really don't know what to say about this piece of work.

I know what to think of it.

I suppose that is why I posted this same article, albeit with the original title still intact, on the day it was published.
