Palestinian To Suceed Osama as Al Qaeda Chief
Hindustan Times and Ria-Novosti News Agency (Moscow) ^ | Monday , December 17, 2001 | Arun Mohanty

Al Qaeda has named a Palestinian to be Osama bin Laden's sucessor in case the latter is arrested or killed, Russian news agency Ria-Novosti reported.

Quoting sources in Dubai, Ria-Novosti said Al-Qeada members fleeing Afghanistan have revealed this to Pakastani intelligence officers during interrogations.

The leadership of the terrorist outfit would pass over to Zain Al-Abedin Hasan, a 30-year-old Palestinian from Gaza Strip, in case of Bin Laden's death or arrest, Ria-Novosti reported.

Hasan has been based in Pershwar for the last few years, overseeing the recruitment and dispatch of mercenaries from different parts of the world to Afghanistan.

The Palestinian is accused of masterminding the terrorist attacks on citizens of western countries in Aman on New Year's eve in 2000, said Ria-Novosti.

Sure, So Israeli medics can scrape the reply off a Jerusalem sidewalk. You have a fantastic logic. But then, for the average US caveman, it's all about bashing peoples brains out with their fantastic tools.

lol that's good fight to the last man, less of a chance for history to repeat. a bunch a literal cavemen with machine guns and a few mortars can not defeat the civilized world. MEMO TO ARAB COUNTRIES, THE USA WILL PROTECT ISRAEL until the day that the arab world is capable of defeating the USA Britian and our allies in war they need to stand down. P.S. that day is a long way off

RE #48 Your point is well-taken. Al-Qaeda intends to escalate their fight. West wants to isolate their fight. Al-Qaeda must have borrowed the concept of "people's war" from Mao, and Ho Chi-Minh. They are going into people's war mode. It is another question if they will succeed.

Unlike Yassir, bin-Laden has thought about his successor.

I hate competent foes.

This Zain Al-Abedin Hasan is not unknown. He is presumably the same as the "ZAIVAL ABIDEEN MUHAMMAD ASAN," a.k.a. "ABU ZUBAIDA," who appears in the AUTO DE PROCESAMIENTO (INDICTMENT?) of the Spanish Al Qaeda cell issued by the court in Madrid on Nov. 18, 2001. According to that court document, Abu Zubaida was already a high-ranking official of Al Qaeda in 1997, when he took over the placing into training camps in Afghanistan of recruits coming from Al Qaeda cells like the one in Spain all over the world.

By the way, Suceed is really spelled SUCCEED...

Unless you're Monica Lewinsky, in which case it is two words.

Shades of Admiral Doenitz in 1945. I doubt anyone would want this job. The Palestinian SOB will probably blow himself up at a bus stop rather than take the job.

Okay member since today, what do YOU think we should do about the newly appointed Al Qaeda Chief? Should we wait until the next few skyscrapers are toppled before getting angry?

Once they can do that, then the Islamic war can proceed.

I believe you are right about what they are trying to accomplish. Problem is that they are not smart enough to walk and chew gum at the same time. We are. The good people of the U.S. would never paint everyone with the same brush. Our strength is to judge and reward individuals and, despite the ravings of the PC crowd, we do not treat individuals poorly because they belong to a "class" or ethnic group. I expect to see their rage and fustration in their impotence to flare up in even more violent acts directed against our children or churches to try to goad us into just such a reaction. I hope I am wrong.

Here's confirmation of the role of Abu Zubaida (the nom de guerre of this Palestinian) in heading Al Qaeda's camps, from a NY Times article from back in July on the trial of Ahmed Ressam:

In his testimony, Mr. Ressam said the camps were run by Abu Zubaida, the nom de guerre of a Palestinian whom American officials have identified as an important lieutenant to Mr. bin Laden.

American officials say Abu Zubaida reports directly to Mr. bin Laden and is in charge of recruiting for the camps. Mr. Ressam said Abu Zubaida arranged for his trip from Montreal to Afghanistan, providing him with Afghan clothes and an Afghan guide to take him from Pakistan to a camp called Khalden.

An October article in the Canadian La Presse says Abu Zubaida was born in Saudi Arabia, but that is presumably mistaken:

Le nom d’Abu Zubaida, alias Zain Al-Abidin Muhahhad Husain, né le 12 mars 1971 en Arabie Saoudite apparaît aussi dans la liste. C’est Zubaida (ou Zoubaida en français) qui aurait organisé les voyages du terroriste montréalais Ahmed Ressam en Afghanistan, avant qu’il ne soit arrêté à la frontière canado-américaine au volant d’une voiture bourrée d’explosifs le 14 décembre 1999.

According to the Sept. 22 Washington Post, Abu Zubaida was born in Gaza, and he reviewed a terrorist plan to attack Jordan and Israel at the beginning of 2000.

And is this supposed to be a promotion for Abu Zubidingding? Sometimes being a loser has its rewards.
