ATLANTA - For months before Sheriff-elect Derwin Brown's death, he was shadowed by would-be assassins who plotted to kill the man who had boasted he would clean up a department mired in corruption, investigators say.

On Dec. 15, 2000, the day before Brown was to take office, they got their chance. Brown was shot to death in his driveway, felled by 11 of the 16 bullets fired at him.

For nearly a year, the investigation stalled and sputtered. But Nov. 30, investigators charged three men in his homicide.

This was NOT a case of an old redneck sheriff murdering his replacement. I doubt if there was a racial motivation but the old sheriff who put out the "contract" was black so that erases the old stereotypes.

And how is the government different from the mob? I guess the only distinction is we vote for our mob. But this is the same think a mob boss would do. I think this is to be expected. Once you give people such power they will either be corrupted, or corrupt people will be the ones seeking to work for the organization.

This was for corruption and money... Dorsey was deep into making money from whatever means his position gould get him and he had a lot fo people around him making money the same way... Brown ws going to bring that all town around their heads the only alternative was what they did.... Without Brown is will continue... the Atlanta Government is one of the most corrupt in the nation.......We as a peoeple have the obligation to stop it.....

I figured all along that the new Sheriff's vow to clean out the corruption was his death warrant from one or more associates. The case certainly did drag on a long time.

But the DNC need not worry if their trial lawyers can get just one loyalist on the jury it will be hung.

Thanks for the flag. The thing that gets me about this story is the "Concerned Black Clergy" holding candle light vigils for Dorsey. I don't recall them being "concerned" for Brown.

No and I rarely mentioned anywhere in the threads I posted or replied to about the race of these two to keep the focus on corruption and what happens sometimes to those who stand up against it.

Ofcourse race hustlers are always going to get involved in a situaion where they can possibly enrich or empower themselves in some way.

In the case of Denny's restaurants in Annapolis Maryland the waitress was black and so was the manager when Clinton pulled a scam with a detail of black secret service agents--who clamed they were discriminated against and not served food. The truth was they went into the reastaurant and started sexually harrassing the young women and she then refused to serve them.

Another table of secret service agents in the same restaurant at the same time was waited on promptly because they acted like gentlemen as you'd expect them to.
