Winona Ryder claimed her five finger discount at a posh Beverly Hills department store was really just reasearch for an upcoming movie role sources told the Post yesterday.
After security guards nabbed Ryder the moment she left Saks Fifth Avenue without paying on Wednesday night, the world-famous actress apparently tried to pawn off her sticky fingered antics on work.
'She said a director of an upcoming movie suggested she do this for research,' a source close the investigation told the Post yesterday.
Ryder has not been reported to work on any new films, and her defense lawyer Mark Garagos, did not return calls from the Post. But Garagos has said the incident was a 'misunderstanding' between Ryder and store managers.

In 1993, she offered a $200,000 reward to help find Polly Klaas, who was kidnapped at age 12 from Ryder's hometown of Petaluma, Calif., and later found dead. $200K to help find a little girl. Real "bitch" that Ryder.

And the shoplifting surely had nothig to do with money, she's admitted to wrestling with her demons. I can empathize somewhat, but it still doesn't excuse her behavior.

Regardubg bet - No, I wouldn't take you up on that heh heh.. I would agree that in all probability she is guilty but can always hope that it was a mistake. Again, unlike some here, I don't WISH that upon her to validate my hatred of Hollyweird and I don't wish for any of my enemies to commit wrong to validate my hatred of them. I would rather they give me no reason to hate them. The haters will claim they are hating her act and that they are glad she was caught. I would contend that they are more gleeful that she did something AND got caught for it to justify their own feelings. Kind of a wishing ill on somebody to feel better about yourself sort of thing.

Of course, having just said that, a statement like yours is the type of thing that gets you thrown off juries too, since it goes against the grain of our judicial system and what America is about. I know b/c I've used it to get back to work, something some might argue is unpatriotic as well.

I'm worried about a Lizzie Borden biographical movieHow about a remake of the Aileen Wournous Story about Florida's favorite female serial killer.

Has anyone given any thought as to why she hired Garagos? I mean look at his history, McDougal, Condit, Roger Clinton. I just wonder if there is any common thread that runs through this story. I never thought of Garagos as the Attorney to the Stars, has anyone else? I've always thought he was the Attorney of Last Resort or of the organized crime. What's going on with this story that he would be put into play? Clinton and his minions are out of office, Starr is done and Bush has shown no desire to prosecute the scum of the previous administration, so perhaps the lawyer merely had to train his eyes on a different ambulance so to speak.

..or maybe he was put into play to prevent something more exciting from surfacing. Has Ms. Ryder been active at all in politics or has she cavorted with any Washington elite?

Leave Winona alone. She voted for KKKlintoon -- what do you expect? :-]

Of you reread the article, you will see that she was CAUGHT ON TAPE , stealing the items, and removing the security tags. The security gaurds SAW HER DO THESE THINGS.
So, who are you going to believe; your lying eyes, or two lying people, with something to hide ; Wynona and her lawyer ?

OMG, everyone calm down!
Let the real true gossip queen come in with the truth here.
First to the men salivating over her looks...she's had a SERIOUS nose job! I saw a picture of her when she was in jr. high, and believe me, it wasn't as bad as Howard Stern's yet...it was pretty awful, and she DID look like a boy back then, very ugly. The nose job improved her looks...a lot. But you can still see it, her nose doesn't move.
Now, about the shoplifting charge, I've been reading for months and months blind items about a hollywood shoplifter! Turns out it's our own Winona Horowitz!! Oh I guess I forGOT to tell you about her NAME CHANGE!
Now the other thing I want to tell you about is the fact that her career has been circling the drain, her acting is pretty pathetic, and she doesn't choose the greatest scripts. Even Girl, Interrupted ...well we all know it became Angelina Jolie's movie, and WR was just sort of wooden background to lush lively AJ.
BTW, the American public won't forgive her her shoplifting problems. She's rich, she can afford Saks...most of us can't afford $5 grand for shopping, she can...er or could.
Which brings me to my last point, I don't think she's as rich as she used to be, for sure, she's on the downward spiral.....

Your attitude is more charitable than mine, but I also sympathize for anyone unfortunate enough to have countercultural parents. Here's an article on the subject that you might like:

You are the perfect example of the type of person I am talking about. You seem to be utterly gleeful in somebody's problems. I just read an interview, and she was extremely humble about her never becoming a giant star. A big deal to you bizarre, hollywood watchers I guess, but not so much to this actress. The quotes I read made her seem to me to be a nice person, dealing with her career as well as other troubles, but never really begging for any serious sympathy. Your little putrid "gossip" piece is the kind of sick crap that indicates to me that you possess even more serious mental problems than Winona. She at least has indicated she is a screw-up. You go through life probably completely unaware that because you have no life, you have to delight in the problems of hollywood or other famous folks that you have to read about.

Bingo! Spot On... It is all about keeping the publics eyes off of sneaky Gary, while he tries to keep his seat. She know she can get away with it. The common link is the lawyer.

umm... I was just kidding. I hope you are too?!? Of course, if Winona was connected to Condit is some way and my joke was on the mark, maybe you have something and my old, discarded conspiracy theorist ways are still lingering deep in my subconscious! If not, this is a ridiculously silly speculation.

I've been wondering that, too. I suppose he is going to have her claim that she was arrested "because of who she is and who she knows." Either that, or they're trying to get at somebody else by arresting her! That's his usual M.O.
He does seem rather "extreme" for this type of charge though, at least IMO.
