We had the vet kill our oldest dog this past year. We need another but I'm not taking a puppy to raise. I'll just go down to the pound and find something that looks like it chases deer but not people.

I know the feeling, I had to put down my dog this year(16 years old) and am, believe it or not, going "down to the pound and find something that looks like it chases deer."

Absolutely, call the local pound or Humane Society. We adopted our Maltese 9 years ago from the city pound. I just called up and asked. Wonderful dog but he is a people dog and kept climbing his orignial owners's backyard chain-link fence. He's an inside dog here and we wouldn't trade for the little rascal. DO call pounds for pets that their owners can't (for whatever reason) take care of.

The best place to find a dog or cat is at your local animal shelter or human society. I have five dogs now, four of them I found at the shelter or were on the way there. I would not trade them for anything. These animals need a home and will show their appreciation through their love.
