The U. S. government released today a copy of a videotape of Osama bin Laden obtained by U.S. forces in Jalalabad, Afghanistan in late November.
The video was filmed by unknown persons.
"There was no doubt of bin Laden's responsibility for the September 11 attacks before the tape was discovered," said Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld.
The release of the tape was made after balancing the concerns about any additional pain that could be caused by its release against the value of having the world fully appreciate what we are up against in the war against terrorism.
The tape was released with an English translation and English subtitling, prepared independently by George Michael, translator, Diplomatic Language Services; and Dr. Kassem M. Wahba, Arabic language program coordinator, School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University. They collaborated on their translation and compared it with translations done by the U.S. government for consistency. There were no inconsistencies in the translations.

... probably another concocted fantasy to be snapped up by the demented Hollywood crowd and coming soon to a theatre near you. What, are you just another wannabe scriptwriter for Disney, or something? You make as much sense.
How I wish I could believe that were true, but it seems to me that even as we get the upper hand more and more in Afghanistan we are inundated with Islam accomodating messages; all this while our kids are being taught about Islam in public schools and Christianity and the Bible are taboo. I guess I just can't be that optimistic. We take the liberals far too seriously in this country instead of sending them to their playpens till they grow up, as we should. We bow down to their demands not to offend even the most offensive of individuals whle the majority of us are subjected to constant offense against all we hold sacred and sensible. When I see us getting the same degree of leverage on the infidels at home that we are gaining over the Taliban over there, then I will be encouraged. Until then, I will just have to continue to pray in the sincere hope that God has heeded the voices of those who have asked Him to stay despite all the voices which have told Him to leave.
I have to agree, although it grieves me greatly that things had to deteriorate to this state of indefensible evil. Thanks again Bill Clinton. So in the spirit of enduring freedom, here's a little "greeting" for bin Laden:
On the second thought maybe this Arab meant the coup as the government seizure of special powers in the name of fighting terrorism?
The proof that they don't know much about the U.S. A coup? By whom? Al Gore?
Maybe he got a nose job, courtesy of an AK-47.

I'm generally a conspiracy nut, but I have no particular thoughts on this tape.
But I would say that it's worth remember in the movie "Cats & Dogs" the animals appear to be talking and saying things. Their lips match their words. Special effects can do that easily today.
This tape is certainly strong evidence that bin Laden did it. No doubt about that.
But doesn't the whole question of "evidence" these days make you nervous? I mean, if someone wanted to fake a video tape these days, don't we all know that it would be as easy for them to do as, say, faking a diary from a lone nut was a decade ago?
I'm not saying this tape was faked. But doesn't everyone find it troubling knowing that it could be fake and there's NO WAY for us to know? I find that troubling...

I wish I could be convinced that 'one evil man' dwelling in caves thousands of miles from America was really responsible for what happened. OTOH, try to picture ONE EVIL MAN in America, with billions of dollars at his disposal and a few bunker mentality fanatics supporting him, perpetrating such an offense against the governments and people of Russia; or China; or England. Could they do this without high level help from inside?
They were cool with what he had done.
You can bet your bottom dollar on that. We've created a lot of widows and orphans and parents who are grieving for killed children in Muslim countries over the years and they loved seeing such devastation here. I am saddened and disgusted by both mentalities.
what you think should be done to bring those evil people to justice and dissuade others from trying such in the future.
For one, I think 'we' should stop trying to balance out the value of human lives in terms of barrels of oil.
