The U. S. government released today a copy of a videotape of Osama bin Laden obtained by U.S. forces in Jalalabad, Afghanistan in late November.

The video was filmed by unknown persons.

"There was no doubt of bin Laden's responsibility for the September 11 attacks before the tape was discovered," said Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld.

The release of the tape was made after balancing the concerns about any additional pain that could be caused by its release against the value of having the world fully appreciate what we are up against in the war against terrorism.

The tape was released with an English translation and English subtitling, prepared independently by George Michael, translator, Diplomatic Language Services; and Dr. Kassem M. Wahba, Arabic language program coordinator, School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University. They collaborated on their translation and compared it with translations done by the U.S. government for consistency. There were no inconsistencies in the translations.

They will say the same things that the Dems said when the Webb Hubbell tapes came out. The tapes were edited, spliced, etc to show only what we wanted them to show.

Like I've said before, no reason to show Muslims any evidence, because no matter what is shown to them, they will reject it out of hand.

Ditto. Finding it seems too easy. And the tape was made on November 9? That's almost two months after the attack. Don't you think that most of the OBL or AQ top men would have already met or talked about it way before Nov 9? And why would anyone go to the trouble of taping this meeting? I believe the tape is real, but was there a purpose in making it - and leaving it behind? Ok, maybe someone was in a big hurry to leave. Was there anything else left behind in the house or was it cleared out except for this tape?

My dad, now departed from this life, was a WWII veteran, wounded fighting Japanese in the Phillipines.  I don't know when "peace" signs first came into existence, but they were big when I was a teenager.  People would hold their fingers up in the V sign and say "peace".  The Cold War was very real.  My dad would be very upset if I parroted any of that and made a peace sign.  I could not understand why at that time, but now I do, and it's fairly simple.  For certain people (like Osama and his buddies) "peace" means they dominate, we submit, and that way there is no conflict.  In other words, they define "peace" as We Rule, You Do What We Say.  Peace like that, stripped of freedom, is just slavery.  We should not ask if Islam is peace...we should ask if Islam is that kind of peace.  I think we already have the answer.

There were several reports in the news that initially there was confusion about the identities of several hijackers, e.g., whether they stole another's identity. But the FBI says they have sorted out the discrepancies now. For instance, it was claimed that the hijacker who trained locally here in Daytona Beach at Embry Riddle was still alive and working for Saudi Airlines, but apparently that was not true. If he has a current source proving his claim that 4 of the alleged hijackers are still around, I'd like to see it too.

The one who showed up at the embassy ... and I'm missing his name right now ... actually was reported one time on the radio in the middle of the night and then zap ... it was off the news. Wouldn't have believed it myself except one of my friends also heard it. We were both STUNNED. Then I read about the other one in the american free press. Bin Laden was trained as a civil engineer. We engineers have discussed the fact that most likely there were computer simulations based on structural engineering data conducted during the planning of this attack, as the computer and software resources to do so are very inexpensive.
