I was coming back home just yesterday from West Virginia. I stopped at the CB on Rt. 68 East for breakfast. I always order the same thing, Uncle Herschel's Favorite, when I eat there. The service was the worst that I've encountered. I looked around the room and noticed that it was the waitress on my side that was the problem. The manager even had to bring my coffee even after I told her when I sat down that I wanted coffee. He also attended to the refills. She didn't get my order correct. I always ask for country ham, it was regular ham. She told me that it came that way. I said please bring the menu again. She read.... said that she was sorry. I'm a firm believer in letting someone know why I'm not tipping them and I'm normally a 20% tipper. I left her a detailed note on a napkin detailing the chain of events that caused me not to tip. I have removed that CB from my list if I ever return to WV. By the way, I'm a 56 year old black man.
And unfortunately, she's probably telling her co-workers that you're the one who had the bad attitude and that black people don't tip.
I'd be pissed too. I think I would write the central office and ask for an explanation. I once did this with K-Mart and got a free $25 gift card. Perhaps they might do the same for you. I wouldn't give up on CB just yet. I think you just got a bad waitress but I could be wrong.
When I'm on the road for a few days, I always eat at Cracker Barrel. Have done so for decades. Quality food, plenty of it, and at fair prices. And I know good food! I love the gift shop. There's always a line at Cracker Barrels at meal times which means people like the chain.
Once in a while, I've had bad service, but a word to the manager always resulted in a cancelled bill.
The time spent waiting depends on the time of day, the size of your party and whether you want the smoking or non-smoking room. All in all, they have a very efficient system for seating.
By the way, CB's are always loaded with blacks. If they were being discriminated against, the word would have gone out long age and blacks wouldn't show up. They like that rural, down-home cookin' as much as we do.
Anyone who says that Waffle House has good food is smoking corn cobs. They probably have the worst, cheeziest and ill-prepared food of any chain in the country. Even their waffles are cheezy. Waffle House is exceeded in ghastliness only by the Olive Garden chain which is a national atrocity.
