I know: why not give all buildings over 40 stories high to Al Queda. That way they won't want to fly airplanes into them.
Ernest, you may want to ping this incredible thread to one of the group indexes you have set up!
John, this needs to put on your list of letting the world of Free Republic know about this incredible post!
Yes very droll.
If you believe that the West Bank and Gaza is part of Israeli territory just say it.
Withdrawing to more defensible lines does not mean giving in, fighting an untenable position merely to safe face leads to whole sale defeat as history has shown over and over again.
Tony
Israeli "withdrawal" (of their own land) will not change the Palistinians goal; the destruction of the Jews. You could give ALL of Israel to the Pali's, it won't make a difference. Even Arafat says on his radio addresses in his native tongue that all Jews are to be killed.
The Palis can go home to Syria/Lebanon.
One more time
Withdrawing to more defensible lines does not mean giving in.
The Palestines could call for the destruction of Israel until hell freezes over but it doesnt mean they can destroy the strongest regional power in the Middle East.
You posted a graph I merely pointed out that the biggest causality list comes from the Gaza and the West Bank, does Israel militarily or economically need to be in both those areas if not then move out.
Tony
Even the IDF admits the West Bank and Gaza are not part of the Israeli homefront.
will not change the Palistinians goal; the destruction of the Jews.
The PA's goal is a sovereign Palestinian state and it will be realized when Israel finally tires of oppressing and destroying Palestinians, gives up dreams of territorial expansion, and ends the hostile Israeli occupation.
Funny, that's not what Arafat said. Hmmm.
I left it out because it isn't true. The PA's territorial demands are limited to the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem. It recognized land behind the green line (Israel's homefront) as part of Israel.
They want the destruction of Israelis - Jews.
The Jews could leave Israel and all move to Russia and vacate the Land. Do you think that would put an end to the Palis terrorist attacks on Jews? Do you think they would be satisfied with owning ALL of the land? NO.
LISTEN to what Arafat, HAMAS, the PLO and other Terrorist groups are SAYING and watch what they are DOING.
The bottom line is they hate the God of Israel. It has nothing to do with a piece of dirt. They hate Jews, they want them dead. Period.
Article 15 of the PLO Charter is as effective today as it was in 1968. It has never been renounced, despite their agreement to do so(first time Yasser lied?).
The liberation of Palestine, from an Arab viewpoint, is a national (qawmi) duty and it attempts to repel the Zionist and imperialist aggression against the Arab homeland, and aims at the the liquidation of the Zionist presence (Israel) in Palestine. Absolute responsibility for this falls upon the Arab nation - peoples and governments - with the Arab people of Palestine in the vanguard. Accordingly, the Arab nation must mobilize all its military, human, moral, and spiritual capabilities to participate actively with the Palestinian people in the liberation of Palestine. It must, particularly in the phase of the armed Palestinian revolution, offer and furnish the Palestinian people with all possible help, and material and human support, and make available to them the means and opportunities that will enable them to continue to carry out their leading role in the armed revolution, until they liberate their homeland.
I wouldn't lump Arafat's PA in with Hamas. The PA accepts the existence of Israel and condemns attacks on civilians, regardless of ethnicity, which puts it on higher moral ground than Israel. The state of Israel sponsors collective punishments and attacks on Palestinian civilians by Israeli soldiers and settlers.
Wrong. From The Palestinian Government:
In 1993, the PLO affirmed that the articles of the Palestinian National Covenant denying Israel's right to exist were invalid and renounced terrorism. In turn, Israel acknowledged the PLO as the official negotiating body for the Palestinians.
Sorry, CNN is mistaken. In 1993 and again in 1994 Arafat agreed to amend the Palestinian Covenant. It wasnt done. It was again included in the Oslo Interim Agreement signed in 1995, Article 31 clause 9. The Charter can only be changed by a 2/3 vote of the National Congress at a special session, which has never been called. Arafat has not fulfilled any of these promises to amend the charter. Neither has he acknowledged Israels right to exist, nor renounced terrorism. Ive included a few links discussing the topic, though frankly theyre not hard to find.
Peace Watch: PNC VOTE DOES NOT FULFILL PLO OBLIGATION TO AMEND COVENANT
The decision made by the Palestinian National Council (PNC) last night regarding the PLO Covenant does not satisfy the obligation laid down in the Israeli-Palestinian Interim Agreement (Oslo II).
U.S. TO ARAFAT: COMPLY WITH OSLO AGREEMENTS OR LOSE AID
Arafat reinforces Israeli mistrust by failing to purge calls for violence and the destruction of Israel from the PLO charter, the Palestinian Covenant. Changes in the covenant are required by the 1993 Oslo agreement, the 1995 Oslo II agreement, and the Note for the Record attached to the January 1997 Hebron Protocol, yet the Palestinians refuse to follow through on pledges to amend the covenant.
The Amendment of the Palestinian Covenant
However, no redrafted Charter has yet emerged, and the PLO executive committee meeting did not ratify the letter from Arafat to Clinton, which specified the amendments to the Charter
.
Wye and the Palestinian Covenant: New Demands from Israel?
While the PNC did meet on April 24, 1996, rather than voting on specific changes to the Covenant (as required by the Covenant itself), it merely approved a resolution referring the matter to a legal committee which was to suggest a draft of a revised covenant. That committee has neither met nor even been formed. Recognizing this failure to change the Covenant, the Note for the Record of the Hebron Accord states under "Palestinian Responsibilities"
WAS THE PALESTINIAN CHARTER CHANGED AS CLAIMED?
Palestinian National Council met and is reported to have decided "The Palestinian National Charter is hereby amended by canceling the articles that are contrary to the letters exchanged between the P.L.O and the Government of Israel 9-10 September 1993" and "Assigns its legal committee with the task of redrafting the Palestinian National Charter in order to present it to the first session of the Palestinian central council." The canceled articles were not specified.
