See #3 for the "it's-just-my-instinct-and-I-can't-help-myself" argument - it makes your point. Some folks just want to plead "dumb animal" when it comes to what is clearly a choice in humans.

"it's-just-my-instinct-and-I-can't-help-myself" argument

The evidence for an inborn sexual instinct is as plentiful as that for the spherical earth. Yet the Bible thumpers amongst us will never accept either a spherical earth nor inborn sexual preference. It's all a deep dark conspiracy run by Satan to turn folks minds away from the absolute truth the Good Book.

Well, baloney. Sexual preference is whatever it is. Except for the Bible telling us to kill homosexuals, no one really gives a rip whether they're homosexual or not. What of it? Big deal.

Interesting, did you have a long battle, weighing all of the evidence and moral implications of your sexual preference, or did it just come naturally?

Speak for yourself...

I'm a man who couldn't be attracted to men sexually even if I "chose" to try to. Nor could I successfully "choose" not to be attracted to women.

I'm just not built that way.

I could no more "choose" to change my sexual orientation than I could "choose" to give up sleeping.

And since I'm aware that I'm simply "wired" that way, it doesn't seem unreasonable to me to consider that men who show obvious sexual attraction to other men, and not to women, may well be men who are "wired" differently, and not simply men who are somehow able to "choose" to do what I would find impossible.

Are you truly trying to tell us that *you* "chose" *your* sexual orientation, and that it was not thrust upon you by biology before you even really understood what sex was about?

I didn't "choose" to be heterosexual. I just *am*. If someone else claims that they similarly didn't choose their homosexuality, I'm going to have to take their word for it, because I don't see how someone *could* "choose" contrary to what they were born to on this matter.

I'm sorry if that violates your preconceptions in some way.

Sounds like a lot of biological determinists on the panel tonite. Man is superior to the animals precisely because he can resist biology. I don't doubt that there are many people who have a biological predeliction toward homosexuality. The trick is to repress it.

You know, kind of like we repress the urge to beat the crap out of people we don't like. Just like we don't jump every attractive female that crosses our path.

Biology, nature-- that's what makes us animals. What makes us human is our ability to fight biology.
