THEY SAID IT COULDN'T BE DONE
12/11/01

They told us it couldn't be done. They told us that the mighty Soviet Army couldn't defeat these people, and neither could we. They told us the Afghans were fierce fighters, totally committed to repelling any outside invader. They told us we would need 10,000 ground troops, and almost as many body bags. They told us the enemy would never surrender, would never be conquered. They told us the terrain and climate would decimate us. They told us the American people would not stand for a prolonged campaign. They told us it would take years. They told us that if we didn't pause for Ramadan our Muslim allies would abandon us. They told us that the perpetually warring Afghan tribes would never be able to agree on a government. They told us it would be another Vietnam.

In just 3 months; just 91 days, all except for the most remote and unpopulated regions are under our control. Most of the Taliban have surrendered, most of the rest are dead. Most of the hand full of body bags were needed because of accidents, rather than unfriendly fire. Not one member of the coalition bolted during Ramadan. It took less than two weeks for the "perpetually warring" tribes to hammer out an agreement on a temporary government.

Who are "they"? They are also the ones who promised our troops in Kosivo would be home by Christmas; how many years ago? They are the ones who have no problem with many of our military families being on food stamps. They are the ones who insisted our military be used around the globe in "peace keeping" missions and refused to allow it to be re-supplied. A few names that come to mind are Tom Daschle, Hillary Clinton, and John McCain.

They are also the ones who are complaining that military tribunals for suspected foreign terrorists are unconstitutional. Never mind that it was deemed constitutional during WWII. They think such slime should be tried in civil courts. Yet, they are also the ones who are refusing to even hold hearings on Bush nominees to allow our courts to be fully staffed!

We should all thank God daily for President Bush!

Well, I don't know about all that. Lets keep in mind that from 1979 to 1989 russians lost some 15,000 servicement. Afghanis lost over a million. Lets also keep ind mind, that Russia was an occupying force (unlike us) and they left Afghanistan because of the changing political climate in USSR, and no longer were interested in turning Afghanistan into a communist state. So, when all the islamists run around saying how mujahadeen "defeated" russians, look at the numbers.

"A few names that come to mind are Tom Daschle, Hillary Clinton, and John McCain."

It's worth noting that McCain, the arrogant pr**k, said that we'd have a lot of body bags filled, and also that it would be okie dokie with him. He's more guilty than the others of being willing to sacrifice American soldiers' lives.

The soviets had the same interest in afganistan as we do, an oil pipeline.

The soviets couldn't win because we, the US, were arming, training and supporting the "afgan freedom fighters", or the talaban as they are known today.

And when are our forces in Kosivo coming home?

Now we can deal with the Talibansters who live here in our own home towns of America and Europe. I recommend we round them all up and send them home. It's just a thought.

And a very good thought at that! And let's not forget our, to use the politically correct term, "American Taliban"; let's make sure we exicute that trator!

This is excellent. Beside memorializing the victims today, we should also memorialize those fearmongers and naysayers who refuse to stand against evil, but instead bow to weakness, the source being weakness that resides within their own character.

Apparently the Soviet army was so bad and so poorly trained , that's why they failed.

Not true. The reason why they lost is because we were funding the Mooju Hadeem (yes I know its spelt rong for all you Spelling NAZI's out there) Arabs aren't that great as fighters without sponsorship! Not to mention that we fought this fight from the air, not on the ground with troops and tanks. That is Russias fatal mistake!

Please note that the Russions did not have the luxury of a massive bombing campaign, nor world approval.

Could that be because Soviet military power was vastly overrated, and capitalism is philosophically superior to communism?

I was just saying this to someone yesterday. We were told the winter would stop us from finishing this, we were told our million dollar bombs are not worth hitting a tent, etc. Yet, they were wrong. (I forgot who they were until this article was posted and I forgot I heard comparisons to Vietnam as well.) Wrong again.

You're mistaken.

What you say is the correct history of Afghanistan BUT what the author says we were told is the propaganda fed to us regardless of the actual facts. Most who don't know those actual history that you and I know were not truthfully informed. They were told what the author reported by the mass media and to prepare for another Vietnam.

An honest mistake ;-)

And now that we've routed the Taliban and the Afghans are reclaiming their country, the media have shifted their tactic. We are now "war criminals," slaughtering innumerable captive Taliban who died with their hands "tied behind their backs." We are also persecuting poor little Johnny Taliwalker, setting up a sinister inquisition in the guise of military "tribunals," and imposing a dictatorship by questioning and deporting suspicious illegal aliens. No wonder these Taliban propagandists have restricted access in Afghanistan. Their only purpose is to demoralize our troops and villify our President. If CNN headquarters were bombed by Al Queda, Westin would probably say it was a legitimate military target for the poor, oppressed freedom fighters of Islam.

Also, and most importantly, NO ONE is suppying taliban with weapons and other supplies.. They don't have a single ally..

Besides the politicians;

Thousands of Troops Needed in Afghanistan -Experts

"November 7, 2001 5:05 pm EST
By Charles Aldinger
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Military experts predicted on Wednesday after a month of U.S. bombing that thousands of American and allied troops would be needed in a spring offensive to drive Afghanistan's ruling Taliban from power.
The experts spoke with Reuters as the Taliban's battle-hardened military and al Qaeda guerrillas of fugitive Osama bin Laden remained entrenched and defiant, raising key questions about the young war on terrorism in that rugged country....

...Charles Heyman, editor of Jane's World Armies ...Ivo Daalder of the Brookings Institution ...Larry Korb, a former assistant defense secretary..."

LOL!
