You may have missed this since since most Freepers have the good sense to not watch (gag) "60 Minutes."
Andrea Yates was treated off and on for depression and two suicide attempts after the birth of her fourth child. After the birth of their fifth child, her condition seemed to worsen, her husband said.
She was suicidal and psychotic after the fourth baby, and they went on to have a fifth baby. And Russell Yates stood by and said, "Birth control is not an option!!! Whatever happens is God's will!"
This man leaves me speechless and shaking my head in disgust/amazement.

I just heard and read the 911 tape of that sick woman. Here is a link to it...

There's an interesting legal angle here. By what authority can the judge prevent people who are not the defendant and are not professionally restricted (her lawyers or the prosecutors or court officers or grand jurors) from talking about what they know of the case in public?

I've seen worse 60 minutes stories, and the report on the Milton Hershey school was surprisingly balanced and got most of the main issues and arguments correct(someone's head at CBS will roll for that!).
But that stupid earring dangling from Ed Bradley(?)'s left ear somehow bugged the heck out of me for the entire interview.

This family is partialy victim of feminism, of the man's stupidity and of the woman's violent murder. May the Lord care for the children's souls. Back then before feminism, when we were so backwards and that dady worked and mummy did dishes, man had enough authority to get authorities to keep their wives from the kids when they went nuts. But nowadays there is no equal rights, only the woman has the right to divorce or commit the man, the reverse is considered woman's abuse.
This man did violate a gag order, he is an idiot to protect his wife, and he needs to be put in jail because he is protecting a murderer and not the children who now are dead.
It's all about me me me me me mentality, never giving justice for the children who died in attrocious ways. I advocate killing his b!tch by drowning her in water while he watches.

ACtualy I suspect this accomplice to the murder is trying to claim his moment of fame on TV. What a sick bastard to take attention from his kids. I bet his lawyer is already calculating how much a book on him would make money.

"Birth control is not an option!!! Whatever happens is God's will!" If you don't mind, I'd like to see the article where he's quoted as saying that.
As well, and as always, it takes two to tango. Either his wife was willing to go along with it, or she wasn't. If she was willing to go along with that decision, then she's as much at fault as he is. If she wasn't willing to go along with that decision, then shouldn't he be brought up on rape charges?

. And Russell Yates stood by and said, "Birth control is not an option!!! Whatever happens is God's will!" He said this on 60 Minutes?

"Birth control is not an option!!! Whatever happens is God's will!" I believe he is completely responsible for the deaths of his children and the despair brought upon his wife. She was a decent person during the marriage to have complied with those demands...or she was not mentally competent enough to make the right decisions for herself and her children. He is guilty and should be on trial.

The government can do what it wills. Actually, the judge is obligated to protect the court. Both the people and the defendant are entitled to an "unpredjudiced" jury. As the husband is not under oath, comments he make may taint the trial.

Yes, that is about how I felt when I watched the interview as well. It struck me that, to him, the kids deaths were a tragic "incident" to the REAL tragedy - his poor poor wife - his mindset is totally warped - completely foreign to me. They both are twisted, those kids didn't stand a chance.

According to the wearing of earrings, left is right, right is wrong. I am not sure how anyone knows if that is so.

Whoah, whoah, whoah! This woman DOES need to be put away for the rest of her life so that she can't hurt anyone else. But I CANNOT advocate the death penalty for someone who was clearly insane--at least until somone can reveal a REAL motive on her part...is there one???
To: RooRoobird14
Russell Yates might be trying to pave the way for a profitable lawsuit against the doctor. He conveniently overlooks his own role in all this, which I consider to be negligence. If she was not receiving the treatment she deserved (his words) why didn't he seek a second opinion? Or a third?
Does anyone besides me find his whole demeanor chilling and creepy? He seems so controlled.

Did hubby have a little Taliban in him? Maybe a bit of a control freak? Is it true that when the family went to a local restaurant the people that worked there thought it was strange that the wife and children were not allowed to speak unless he spoke to them? That they just sat there like stones?
This does not excuse what she did. Nothing does. But did 60 minutes miss the boat on the husband's head problems? Or, do they know about it and had another agenda? We will see, maybe.....

snip...Andrea Yates is charged with capital murder in the June 20 deaths of three of the five children. ...end snipWHAT gives??? All FIVE children are dead at the hands of the SAME woman!!! What is the world are they other 2 deaths considered???
To: RooRoobird14
Unfortunately, this is what happens when two clearly insane people are allowed to marry and procreate.
To: RooRoobird14
Aren't we tired of hearing the excuses already? A lot of mothers suffer from severe post-partum depression requiring medical treatment and medication. Do they murder their children?

The earring bugged me also.
What also bugs me is how calm this man is. His children were murdered and he is so calm! And he still resides in the same house!

.....a REAL motive on her part...is there one???Yeah. She wanted to kill her kids. And, she ran them down and held them under the water as they struggled to get free until they went limp after their lungs filled with water and the oxygen supply to their brain stopped. And you, oh big-hearted one, want to force me and other taxpayers to keep her alive in a state-hospital or prison for the rest of her life?
