Faceoff: What to do with Walker
GOPUSA ^ | December 10, 2001 | Peter Roff and James Chapin

Sooner or later, the fate of John Walker, a.k.a. Abdul Hamid, an American who fought with the Taliban against the West, will have to be determined. What should be done with him? UPI National Political Analysts Peter Roff, a conservative, and Jim Chapin, a liberal, face off on opposite sides of this critical question.

Chapin: Fuzzy Wars; Fuzzy Nationalities; Fuzzy Laws

President George W. Bush told Barbara Walters that Johnny Walker was a "poor fellow," which brought an explosion of rage from many on the right wing. The New York Post headlined the comment: "'Poor Fellow' or Traitor? ... It IS A RAT."

For most of American history, the mere act of joining a foreign army would have entailed an automatic loss of citizenship. This president and the last president, however, with support from Congress, have allowed the common use of dual citizenship, including acts such as voting in foreign elections and joining foreign armies, which once entailed automatic loss of citizenship. Of course, the bipartisan lobby pushing this policy was mostly thinking about the Hispanic vote, although such policies invited immigrants to think of America not as a new home, but just as one of several homes.

What needs to be done with him is to take his passport as he is NO LONGER a US Citizen and let him go back to Pakistan with the other Pakistani Taliban fighters. You can't be a traitor if you are NOT a US Citizen. The consequences of joining up with a foriegn military is outlined in the US passport. One day he may realize what happened. To lose your citizenship. It is the GRAVEST of punishments that Walker will face, and one done by his OWN hand.

What to do with him?

Kill Him.

If he's lost his citizenship, then he's not guilty of treason, and need not be tried. If he's an enemy of America, turn him into a gooey splotch on the desert floor of Whatever-the-hell-they're-calling-it-this-weekistan.

Johnny weighs in:

Lawyers, Funds, and Rummy,
by Johnny "Werewolf" Walker

(parody of Warren Zevon's "Lawyers, Guns, & Money")
("Lawyers, Guns, and Money" lyrics)

Well, I went to the madrassas
Dad paid my way through school
How was I to know
They would take me someplace cool

After reading my Qur'an, yeah
Life took a little twist
Send lawyers, funds, and Rummy
Dad, get me out of this

I'm an innocent Talebanner
Some guys got no luck
Now I'm locked in a dark place
And I'm down to my last buck
Yes, I'm down to my last buck
Well, I'm down to my last buck

Tell them guys that I'm a tourist
Hatch a desperate plan
Send lawyers, funds, and Rummy
Shoulda' stayed in Pakistan

Send lawyers, funds, and Rummy...

While I agree that he should be stripped of his citizenship, he should be hand over to the Northern Alliance. He was involved in the prison revolt. The Northern Alliance should be able to persecute (oh I meant prosecute) him on murder charges.

From all that I've heard about the status of ones citizenship after joining forces against America, sounds like a no-brainer to me. He is no longer a citizen and should be treated as a foreign terrorist, i.e. military tribunals or leave him to the Northern Alliance.
