Fight terrorism -- don't buy an SUV.

Is this any different than rubber rationing and victory gardens during WWII?

US drivers in SUV gas-guzzling buying

by: Reuters Environmental News Service

Doesn't Reuters have primarily a UK roots?

BTW, the fuel efficiency of these vehicles is the HIGHEST they have ever been owing to a wide range of technological advencements including PORT fuel injection, Electronic fuel and ignition control systems and MORE light-weight composites being used ...

I think people value comfort, safety, and power over economy. That's why we buy big trucks and SUV's. Try taking a long trip with the family in a subcompact.

If auto manufacturers increased fuel economy by as little as three miles per gallon, consumers would save as much as $25 billion a year in fuel costs, the EPA said.

No mention of the cost to those consumers to pay for the technology required to meet these unnecessary and arbitrary standards.

What these zany environmentalists don't seem to count on, is that by driving the cost of new cars through the roof, many of us will keep or buy older, emissions-exempt vehicles. Thus the end result of their policies is more pollution, and greater fuel usage.

Gasoline consumption for November averaged about 8.6 million barrels per day, up nearly 3 percent from last year, according to the American Petroleum Institute (API), despite a recession.

Now this IS interesting. Gas prices are down 30 or so percent yet consumption is only up 3 percent! It almost seems like we are not getting sucked into comsuming more.

If the envirowackos can put a sock in it, these things can be sold with economical diesels as in the rest of the world, thus pumping up fuel mileage. Soon they will be hybrid versions and all this will be moot. another strategy is to use the right tool for the right job. I have an old 3/4 ton for the heavy stuff, a mid 60's mid size wagon for weekends and car shows, and a 30mpg compact for grocery getting and my wife going to her job. This strategy has significantly cut our fuel consumption. Lastly, make sure tire pressure is on the high end of what's normal for a given application. mileage will go up significantly. In the U.S. real Americans drive what they want to1

What if I don't particularly pay attention to gas costs? How worked up can I really get over $5 or $6.

There was a survey in the Onion a while back on high fuel prices. It went something like: What do you do when you encounter high prices at the gas pump?

a) Run into the street and scream like a lunatic.
b) Sell you vehicle to the first passerby you see for $1.00.
c) Set yourself on fire as a protest to the rape of the environment and the gouging of the consumer.
d) Briefly glance at the prices on the sign, instantly forget them, fill your tank, go on your way as usual.

Delusional bunk for boobs. We have now decades of buy statistics that show no matter what type of car bought, gas consumption does not decrease- it is just either spent on large vehicles or small ones that are driven further. People drive because they like it, and they drive what they do because they like that. Simple, free, democratic.

Hey, I hate the environmental wacos as much as any of you! However, why should the SUVs get a beak on the milage thing as ordered by the Feds. I think, if they get rated the same as cars, the auto companies would make them smaller and more efficient. The lobbiests in Washington managed to win one for the Auto industry, and they never imagined how popular this SUV thing would get.

Enviral terrorists like cogitator? want us to buy yugos and other unsafe vehicles. These unsafe vehicles kill more innocent Americans each year than were mass murdered on 9/11! CARA vehicles are dangerous to Americans at any speed!

There never has been an oil shortage! The enviral terrorists have worked hand in hand with the Opecker Nations to increase our dependence on Opecker Oil. Donations by the Opecker nations to the American envirals buy senators like ChiFi and Boxer and Da$$hole. Then they keep us from drilling for oil in Alaska and the lower 48. If we find more oil, we are less dependent on the Opeckers!

I will fill my Large OJ Simpson Bronco up with cheap gas this weekend to drive around this weekend and drive to and from steelhead fishing next week!

Too make it even more gloomy and sad for those who want to tell us to drive unsafe yugos. The RV industry is going great guns. They are selling the big RVs at an incredible rate. The interest rate is low and gas prices are lower than in years. Go you big RV owners and want to be owners!

Every rental rv in California for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's have been booked since the first of October! In stead of flying people are going by their own rv or rental rvs!

My son and daughter in law will be trading up from their Explorer to a larger and safer SUV. My daughter in law drives with a two year old and 9 month old. They have to have two special car seats and a double stroller. When the seats are in and the stroller, there is no room for passengers and not too many groceries or packages! She and my son want the biggest and safest suv that they can afford to buy!

Screw all of the whiney enviralists on the left and the right! Get your damn yugo's and rice burners out of the left lane. I want to go fishing in my big Bronco!

Senate Democrats introduced a broad energy bill this week that seeks, in part, to boost vehicle fuel efficiency...

Same old liberal BS - working to penalize the consumption side instead of building the supply side - these are the same A$$ holes who refused to address the energy needs of the USA by killing Bush's energy bill. The only shortage in existence is the shortage of American brains between the ears of all liberals!
