".....my message is this: Your tactics only aid terrorists, for they erode our national unity and diminish our resolve. They give ammunition to America's enemies and pause to America's friends."
WASHINGTON - Attorney General John Ashcroft vigorously defended the administration's anti-terrorism policies Thursday and suggested that critics of the Justice Department's actions were aiding the terrorists.

John Ashcroft did the administration proud yesterday.
Nothing to see here move along. Go buy a car.
Ashcroft should have countered with,
"What does the 2nd Admendment have to do with terrorist highjacking planes with box cutters? It seems to me that boxcutters are responsible for the worst terrorist attacks in the history of this country, yet there are no bill proposing a 5 day waiting period on them or banning them, nor is there a Admendment protesting them! Why is it important for you Democraps to Demigog gun owners and strip thm of their Constitution rights?"
Agreed. Quite suprising it was presented that way. Good on them and the AG.....
I wonder why Deirdre Shesgreen omitted, and hid the fact that she omitted, part of the quote?...
"We need honest, reasoned debate; not fearmongering. To those who pit Americans against immigrants, and citizens against non-citizens; to those who scare peace-loving people with phantoms of lost liberty;"
... because Daschle and Leahy didn't want Gephardt's newspaper to wise up any immigrant voters.
The First Amendment specifically protects speech that is critical of government policies and actions.
You are aware of that, are you not?
No he didn't. This is what he said:
"To those who scare peace-loving people with phantoms of lost liberty, my message is this: Your tactics only aid terrorists, for they erode our national unity and diminish our resolve. They give ammunition to America's enemies and pause to America's friends."
He's talking to you goofballs in the clown cars, riding around in circles and conjuring up all kinds of hyperbolic scenarios to frighten the gullible.
Luckily, most Americans have their eyes wide open after 9/11. They're not buying the scare-mongering. What's more, they recognize the fruitcakes for who they are.
Here's Thomas Sowell:
Those who want all our rights extended even to our enemies do not understand that survival is the No. 1 right. Without survival, all your other rights don't amount to a hill of beans. As Supreme Court Justice Robert Jackson once put it: "The Constitution is not a suicide pact."
