If the Clinton administration attacked the Constitution and Bill of Rights in the same manner what would you all say? If Clinton and Reno did this stuff, JimRob would pull the resulting thread within an hour.

It annoys me that we need this extra security thanks to those (insert swear word here) terrorists that attacked us. ( I realize it was America that was attacked, but the first thing I said when I heard about it was, "Who attacked us? Why did they attack us?") Also my exact thoughts at the time, and pretty much the sentiments of almost all Canadians.

My point of course, was not so much that because of cold the border would be IMPASSABLE, to a determined enemy with reason to cross, ...but I was speaking just in terms of ordinary peacetime civilian traffic, not likely hardly to even exist in such severe conditions...

National Guard at the borders...sounds like a good idea. Is that ARMED or UNARMED? I'll never forget that pathetic sight of dozens of unarmed guards (with deer in headlights expressions) in the Atlanta airport, running single file to look for the guy who "slipped past security" and grounded 10,000 passengers
To: ATOMIC_PUNK
We need our regular forces who are trained killers and have chosen the military as a career at the borders.
We don't need to destroy the lives of the National Guard that train enough just in case we are invaded. This is a major wrong to be perpetrated against these guardsmen.

Living in Florida as I do, I am sure I would be frozen solid long before I ever got anywhere near the border.

Uh, annie that was two years ago and so far, that's a pittance compared to the amount coming in your own borders. I think your politicians are looking for a scapegoat. I think they are fooling maybe only you and the other idiot that posted that the 9/11 terrorists came through the US/Canada border.

....I believe the question related to the 9-11 hijackers, not whatever terrorists you imagine to be, lurking across the border waiting to invade the U.S.Thankfully security will NOT be left to you at the border -- perhaps a girlscout and Gary Coleman covering 4,000 miles is sufficient for you JUST IN CASE...
[Easiest point for future invasion is] A direct flight from across any part of the world straight into the US, which is the route most of the 9-11 hijackers took.
And apparently you feel the MO for future terrorists will most likely be "direct flights", -- no doubt once again executed by four swarthy Middle Eastern types per plane. Who'd you have in charge of airline security -- Ray Charles himself??
I don't think you've bothered to keep up with anything happening in Canada.
Au contrar my Canadian friend -- I do know that your government just released 12 terrorist suspects due to a "lack of space" of which to keep them detained. I know JUST enough about Canadian "security."
BTW, take Peter Jennings back -- puleeese...

caymen, if that's the case, that your anti GOP, because you believe in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights (and the rest of common law), then you are in good company.
So when did the GOP agenda become greater than the priveledges that we assigned our public servants in the constitution and the Bill of Rights anyway?
To: onyx
Get a life. You're anti-GOP, period. Funny you should say that, that seems to be the blanket response from you neocons when someone has a less than flattering comment about GOP pols. Kind of like the Israeli zealots, oh wait, I've seen you on that boat too. onyx you've got a pattern of empty accusations and worthless contributions.

Actually, we'd need about
17,500 more border guards along Canada to maintain the same ratio as with the Mexican border.
Ashcroft though does need to either beef up the Mexican border more seriously with better trained personnel, install sensors as one poster suggested, or have U.S.troops "protect" America from this ongoing invasion. It's a sieve as it is.
To: mxbluto
I've seen enough of your comments to know exactly where you come from. Clymer.

Oh, my mistake - it was December of 1999 when a customs inspector at Port Angeles, WA caught Ahmed Ressam trying to cross the border with 130 pounds of explosive RDX and timing devices in the trunk of his car.
My comment was largely in response to the comments about how much more dangerous the Mexico border is to us in this war on terrorism. I disagree.
To: mxbluto
BTW, GOP politics and America's right to defend and secure it's borders are NONE of your business!

You won't "die free" if the democrats have any say in the matter!
You 'fraidy-cats, worry-warts, so-called "defenders of our Constitution" are easily led by the anti-American lefties, and your comment proves that!
Cite one, just one, UN-Constitutional action that President Bush or Attorney General Ashcroft has undertaken! Make sure, the SCOTUS has already ruled whatever you cite as being UN-Constitutional.

"You neocons...[with a] pattern of empty accusations and worthless contributions..."Another graduate from the Lanny Davis school of character assassination and deflection I see??
I guess there is such a thing as "Can-coms"?? Check your Lanny Davis manual for me please...

All of a sudden some of our canadian "friends" are indignant about U.S. beefing up our side of the border? Hey, it's not OUR fault they're getting a bit sloppy over there. And don't they better things to do -- like bringing the Stanley Cup back to Canada?
