Well, enough threads lately on the "Arafat won't control the terror," because he also can't control some of it. PFLP is the communist org. that unsucessfuly tried to take him out once if I recall...

The USA and Israel are trusting Arafat to turn in leaders of terrorist groups, as if he would really arrest himself. Then the Israelis launch a rocket attack on Arafat's office while he is there but purposely miss him. And we wonder why the Palestinians are such emboldended terrorists.

13:30) PA demands PFLP head surrender The Palestinian Authority is demanding the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine turn over its leader Ahmed Sa'adat. Israel suspects Sa'adat of planning and ordering the killing of tourism minister Rehavam Ze'evi in a Jerusalem hotel in October. A PFLP member shot Ze'evi dead in a hallway of the Hyatt hotel. Sa'adat went undercover soon after the assassination. Israel gave the PA Sa'adat's name after the assassination, demanding the Palestinians arrest him. The PFLP reportedly rejected the PA's request, Army Radio said.

Arafat will simply give his comrade-in-arms some crumpets and tea and keep him out of sight for just long enough for the US to allow itself to call the weekend attacks on Israel "a couple of unfortunate incidents by radicals" (BTW, the over/under on that is noon, EST, 12/21/2001).

True, but Arafat is causing many of his own problems by not being ruthless enough against his enemies (i.e. communist organizations who try to take him out, terrorist organizations who attempt to take power from him, etc.). These people are terrorists. Arafat has not taken action against them because he was himself a terrorist (some may debate that he still is) and probably still has quite a few friendships among these people that he doesn't want to risk losing.

However, if this is the case, he needs to stop running to the U.S. for help and look instead to his own people and the supporters he has in the Middle East. The U.S. is solidly behind Israel and Arafat is an idiot if he can't see that. Palestine must prove itself by standing on it's own two feet. If it can't do that, then Arafat must forget the friendships he once had with these terrorists and do his best to get rid of as many terrorists as possible. No more slaps on the wrist or revolving doors. Arafat is destroying himself and deserves what he gets.

"At this point one may note that men must either be pampered or annihilated. They avenge light offenses; they cannot avenge severe ones; hence, the harm one does to a man must be such as to obviate any fear of revenge." - Niccolo Machiavelli The Prince
