I lived in Arkansas once......... ......Once.
All kidding aside, It's BEAUTIFUL there. People are nice. Dems are well, there, but not as loud about it as they used to be.
I'd suggest towns between 30k and 100k in Texas. Like Stephenville, etc. There is a publication of the "100 best small towns in America" each year. I forget who publishes it.

The Arkansas tax burden is actually one of the lower ones. I have a friend who has a house on the lake in north-central Arkansas and pays about $40 a year.

Six of the states studied rank among the the bottom ten in total state and local tax burden per capita: Mississippi (50), Alabama (49), Tennessee (48), Arkansas (47), Oklahoma (44) and Louisiana (43).
We are usually between 47th and 50th in everything. Being 47th in this category is not bad though.
