Apparently we have several relatively new FReepers on this thread (YAY!) .... I have gotten a couple of FReepmails asking me what a *ping* is or how one knows that he/she has been *pinged*.

Since it seems to be a question that is in the minds of several, I thought it would be a good thing to answer it on the thread (yikes! .. do I sound like Martha Stewart? ... believe me, I'm her antithesis .... LOL!).

If I post a reply to you, by putting your name in the To box when I post a reply, then you are duly *pinged* .... or *flagged* (another term that means the same thing).

You can find your *pings* by doing a self-search from the Latest Posts page. All the posts you have made as well as all the replies made to you recently will show up there.

Also, if I know of a subject that you are interested in and see a thread on that subject, I can *ping* you by posting a reply on the thread and putting your screen name in the To box ..... then you'll be able to find the thread by doing a self-search.

Don't hesitate to ask such questions on the thread ..... if you wonder, then probably someone else does, too .... :-)

You are welcome! Lots of times there are things posted early, before you west coasters are up. I get up really early and sometimes I catch something like that. That was hilarious, wsn't it? Actually there is a little thingy you can load that will actually give you an audible ping when someone posts to you. Maybe someone can tell you more about it and tell you how to get it. But the term "ping* came about before that. Maybe some of our computer gurus can give some background on the term ..... I don't think it's unique to FR.

gc6, indeed I do remember the bouncing ball singalongs in the movie theaters. My favorite was Daisy (on a Bicycle Built for Two). Great memories!

Guenevere, Kathy Lee may have been on the Mitch Miller shows after I stopped watching. I do remember Leslie Uggams, though - and guess what she had in common with Kathy Lee? They both were on versions of Name that Tune!
