A CONVICTED paedophile was released from jail on Friday after serving just 16 weeks for a catalogue of sexual assaults.
John Cullen, from Killowen Lower, Arklow, Co Wicklow, was released without having to serve his full six month sentence, even though the leniency of that sentence is the subject of an appeal by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Last July, Cullen was convicted on charges of buggery and indecent assault and a three year sentence was handed down. However, the final two and a half years were suspended.
One of Cullen's victims was so devastated by the assaults that he has considered suicide on a number of occasions.
Speaking to the Sunday Independent, the 28-year-old victim, who was just 13 when he was targeted by Cullen, said he is devastated that a man he believes to be a "monster" is back out on the streets.
He recalled that Cullen started abusing him almost immediately after meeting him and this continued for a period of four and a half years.
"It started with touching and after some years he forcefully raped me," the victim said. Cullen never spoke during these attacks and ignored his victim when he begged him to stop assaulting him.
Cullen was a friend of the victim's family. The young man stayed at the home of Cullen three times and was made to sleep in his bed.
The Sunday Independent has also learned that locals suspected Cullen of being a child abuser for many years.
Another youth abused by Cullen ended up as a rent boy in Dublin and was a central figure in the controversy surrounding Labour TD Emmet Stagg some years ago.
No death penalty, and child molesters go free.
They need those jail cells for the real threats to their regimes, such as gun owners and those who critisize the government.
That's about an hour south of Dublin.
As far as "rent boy" goes, use your imagination.
I don't see any difference
No death penalty, and child molesters go free.
We're worse than you think.
Here in the UK, a woman who threw her 6-month-old son out of a window with predictably fatal results has been released by a very sympathetic judge because she claimed the child was the result of a rape.
She had never made the claim before. Hmm
The judge said she and her family had suffered enough.
Presumably he was thinking of the son she threw out of a window when he said her family had suffered.
I would kill a child molester without a second thought.
I've often wondered what I'd do if someone did that to any of my four children, and I can say without hesitation that the offender would be better off behind bars until either he is dead or I am.
Not sure which bothers me more about this: the fact that the reprobate only served four months, that the sentence was only three years to begin with, or that the judge suspended two and a half years of that already too lenient sentence. "Pathetic" doesn't do justice to any of this incident (and neither did the judge).
Bear in mind that the female and minority judges must be paid at least as much as the white men or the European Court of Human Rights will have something to say about it.
