I'm in my early twenties. I look around at my contemporaries and see very few who believe in much of anything, all the people in my age group do (most of them) is watch MTV and barely watch the news. At least this kid believed in something enough to go overseas and become a scholar (Taliban are scholars)...of course, he's misguided because he's an American and that's not his true tradition or where he comes from, but still, now he's going to pay for his beliefs. I respect him because someone willing to travel overseas and go where he went must have some degree of intellect and courage, and that means he *had* to have known he'd be screwed if he were caught. That means he was willing to sacrifice for something higher than himself, which is more than can be said for others his age. He's a tragic hero, in a sense.

I've got to say I agree with WildConservatism. My impression is that many (if not most) people Gen-X and younger (my age) couldn't care less about anything remotely important - especially if it might mean personal sacrifice.
