Closest thing to Hemingway I've seen yet.Agreed. Staright factual reporting unlike the British rag's nonsense. Outstanding report.
My thanks to all our brave men represented in this peice, and all others serving in Afghanistan. Condolences to Mike Spann's family. Your boy was an outstanding soldier and American.

Finally, despite the warnings clear all the way to the USA that these 'foreigners' were dangerous, after the earlier grenade attack, we have "General" Dostum sticking these guys into a fortress, unsearched with loads of munitions on hand, while he goes off to Konduz, probably to loot.
Did you read the lastest on Drudge about 80 of these guys suddenly blowing themselves up once they were in capitivity? LOL Apparently they were locked up in a shipping container and one wise guy pulled grenade. Me thinks that this might not have been too accidential.

Was the American one of the 80?

Great Article!
It does make me wonder about the guy that was from NY or NJ that shortly after 9-11 decided he was going to leave for Pakistan to help the Taliban in their Jihad. His mother had been one of the survivors of the WTC towers attack. Until I read the part in he MSNBC link that said this guy had been there for six months I wondered if it was him.

Yes, the American was one of the 80 survivors. There is an article linked here that indicates that they later died. According to the article they were being transported in some kind of a large container and somebody inside set off a grenade and killed them all. Must have been a very big grenade!

Thats a great question. I dont know. I suspect we wont get a lot of 'details' from THAT grenade 'accident'. And thats ok. For that, its the ending that matters, not how the story went.

"There was a loud rumble from inside one of the containers," said Abdullah Ismail, one of Gen Dostum's commanders. "We opened it up to find that one or more of the Taliban had triggered an explosion inside. It was a mess. There were about 80 in there. There was stinking smoke and the walls were smeared with flesh."
I'm thinking this looked like what would happen if you put 80 eggs in a giant blender. Taliban Omelets.

I hope you read the link on reply #43. That link has a great ending to this story.

I was curious because they said 86 came out of the Fort. Approximately 80 died in the container. Would he have been separated from the group because he is American and he would be easy to question?

LOL! And here I was trying to muster up just one tear. Nah - Bring on the ham and cheese!

Oh, I suspect that were he seperated he would have been even less likely to survive. Honestly, not to 'ethnic profile' but he was of that area's nationality, so I think he physically would have blended in with the rest of those prisoners.
