Professor Speaks Out on N. Alliance Atrocities (Major Barf Alert)
Friend | 12/1/01 | Grover Furr

Posted on 12/01/2001 1:39:36 PM PST by Mr.Clark

Dear Colleagues and Students: This short analysis is from stratfor.com, an international intellligence newsletter. Stratfor has no illusions about the US - No. Alliance atrocity at the prison camp, nor about how it will now make the Taliban more desperate, ultimately costing American lives as well.

We should remember that Pres. Bush & Co. do not care about the lives of our soldiers. They care about attaining their imperialist objectives -- to control oil and gas in this, the richest part of the world, for the profit and political power which will accrue to them as a result.

Sincerely,

Grover Furr, English

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Taliban Fighters Less Likely to Surrender 2110 GMT, 011129

Summary

International Red Cross workers Nov. 28 began removing the bodies of hundreds of dead Taliban prisoners from a compound near Mazar-e-Sharif, where an uprising by the group sparked three days of intense fighting. The overwhelming response from the Northern Alliance, backed by British and American advisors and U.S. air strikes, left no survivors. The extreme use of force could lead any foreign Taliban fighter heretofore considering surrender to now see little choice but to fight to the death.

Analysis International Red Cross workers Nov. 28 began removing the bodies of hundreds of dead Taliban prisoners from the Qala-e-Jhangi fort, near the Afghan city of Mazar-e-Sharif. An uprising by the prisoners, most of whom were Chechen, Pakistani or Arab Taliban fighters, led to a three-day clash with Northern Alliance and foreign forces. According to reports, all of the 300 to 600 prisoners were killed after intense fighting backed by U.S. air strikes on the compound.

The overwhelming force used by Northern Alliance and coalition forces to quell the uprising has raised concerns from other Arab and Muslim nations, including Iraq and Pakistan. More directly, the deaths of the prisoners send a strong signal to other foreign fighters still inside Afghanistan. Any thought they may have had about surrendering before has been wiped away, leaving little choice but to comply with Taliban orders to fight to the death.

For U.S. and coalition forces active inside Afghanistan, this exacerbates a difficult situation. Defense officials have already warned that hardcore Taliban fighters were unlikely to surrender, and could resort to suicide missions. U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld during a press conference Nov. 26 coined the phrase "dead-ender type" in reference to Taliban leader Mullah Omar. Rumsfeld said Omar and other Taliban and al Qaeda members were unlikely to ever surrender or be captured alive, and essentially suggested that the dangers of taking any such prisoner far outweighed the benefits.

The prediction that the enemy will turn to suicide missions may now become a self-fulfilling prophecy for all foreign Taliban fighters and al Qaeda members in Afghanistan. As news of the actions -- and U.S. participation -- during the prison riots spreads to Khandahar and other pockets of defiance in Afghanistan, the United States will face increased resistance and find it harder to take al Qaeda members alive. ---

This was emailed to me by a friend at Montclair State University. This fellow has said some disgusting things about President Bush and our troops overseas. It would mean a lot to this veteran Freeper if we gave the good professor a little feedback on this issue. Again, furrg@mail.montclair.edu

I think he should stick with his continued role on Sesame Street as SUP-er Grover, and leave the opinions to those who aren't muppets.

Grover Furr is that muppet's name, isn't it? If not it should be.

Hmmm... first Bert, now Grover. I think President Bush needs to add Sesame Street to the list or organizations supporting terrorism.

The professor makes a few valid points, however I think America and most of the rest of the World are better off with these foreign mercenaries being eliminate instead of given any chance to fight another day. The Afghani Taliban have been defecting to the other side and probably will continue to do so. The Foreign mercenaries left may continue to fight instead of surrendering but again that just makes it easier to eliminate them without the adverse propaganda of the prison riot.

Some weeks ago, Stratfor was predicting defeat for the U.S. in Afghanistan, saying that a combination of regional politics and a logistical nightmare would make it impossible for the U.S. to successfully invade, which was the only way Stratfor saw to win. I'll file their latest 'analysis' next to that earlier one. Even if they are accidently correct this time, the fewer surrenders the better. I'm not particularly bloodthirsty, but the more of these dudes who are left breathing, the more trouble they're going to cause us and the region in the future.

"The prediction that the enemy will turn to suicide missions may now become a self-fulfilling prophecy for all foreign Taliban fighters and al Qaeda members in Afghanistan."

. . .and there is something wrong with this?

Suicide missions are hardly unique and no matter HOW this is handled; they will be used in protest against us. . .whether these 'terrorists' are thrown in prison, given reviews, or trials or amnesty. . .there will be 'martyrs' against the process; against the verdicts; against the Judges et al. . .and of course, always America. . .

To imagine, there is a 'way' to appease these people; or these countries et al is delusional.

I say YES to their 'self-fulfilling prophecy'. . .they should not have to wait years before going to Allah.

That's the whole idea, don't they get it? NEWS FLASH to ARAB AND MUSLIM NATIONS! We didn't come all the way over here to have a 'nice' war. We came over here to 'kill' you. You barbarians started it in a very un-nice way, and now we are going to finish it in a very un-nice way. We couldn't car less if it raises 'concerns' among your Mullahs and other blustering fools.

Pres.Bush&Co. do not care about the lives of our soldiers? It is quite obvious that Mr.Furr was a supporter of Al Gore and Bill(I loathe the military)Clinton, who used our troops as bus boys. It was Clinton and Gore who sold our technology to Red China, who one day will use it against our own troops Mr.Furr, not Pres.Bush&Co.

Imperialist objectives, profit and political power? Really Comrade, such cliches went out with the Berlin Wall!
