Excellent article. A must read for those women who feel that feminism, as it stands now, is still in touch with their needs. All I see within the feminist movement are selfish, whiny, confused, neurotics who feel they must push their own matriarichal vision on everyone else. Equality means nothing to them.

Thank you for posting this. Will be sending it to my friends.

If Steyn were a woman I would want to marry him.

This guy is my favorite kind of writer. The kind that uses caustic sarcasm to relentlessly ridicule what should NEVER be taken seriously.

I long for more conservative satire and sarcasm.

"Girls grow up conditioned to be silent." On which planet do these people live? They certainly haven't met my 11 and 13-year old daughters, who may be many things, but unassertive is not one of them.

The male pilot, looming over the curvy undulating form of the Third World hillside, unzips his bomb carriage and unleashes his phallic ordinance to penetrate his target. Needless to say, he explodes on contact, typical bloody men.

ROFLMAO.

"American girls and women have been stripped bare by a sexually expressive culture ..."

"North American females are urged to wear burqas of a different sort. ..."

Pick a lane and drive, ladies. Come now, be good girls and make up your pretty little minds.
What's that you say? It's a woman's perogative to change her mind? Well, well, whatever you want, tootsie.

If you stroll around downtown Washington, you can't help noticing that, in contrast to the heels and cleavage of Paris and Rome and almost every other Western capital, there's nothing but a vast tide of women in sneakers and comfortable, shapeless clothing.

He's on target, as usual. Sneakers and skirts: ugly pet peeve (and I'm a female, btw)... not saying it has to be heels and cleavage, but we've taken slobby casual to extremes (and that much applies to men, too).

The feminists to set themselves up as an official grievance identity group have to scratch pretty hard to evidence of "oppression." So you get these esoteric analyses of how the culture forces them, poor brainless automatons that they are to cover up, to undress, to whatever. What any woman would see in this nonsense is beyond me.

the West does not dominate the world because it "exploits" people, but because it emancipates them -- it untaps its greatest resource, its citizens, and invites them to exploit their own potential.

Steyn just gets better and better.

This is one of the most enlightening AND funniest pieces I've read from Mark Steyn in some time. The man is a genius and he's the Eddie Murphy of conservative punditry. He has the unique gift of leaving you both entertained AND informed at the same time. I don't think the NAG Kim Gandy and her sistuhs will be amused though by his class and brilliance. Here I have this feeling that Steyn would have liked to let them know one of the leading Afghan feminists had utter contempt for them. Fortunately most women know the feminazis are completely irrelevant since it happens to be male violence that sets women free to live as they please. Now there's a politically incorrect irony that Steyn would assure us has never rung truer and the misses have indeed missed the big picture.

This is hilarious:

." If relentless messages about "body image" are tyrannizing American women into bulimia, how come it's the fattest society in human history? Go to a suburban Multiplex any night of the week and you can watch Julia Roberts or Gwyneth Paltrow surrounded by an audience whose distaff side weighs an average 250 lbs and is happily chowing down on supersized extra-buttery popcorn.

This is simply awesome:

This is their right as free citizens. But, when feminists yak on about "cultural confines," they're denying the very essence of liberty -- that each of us is free to choose and therefore responsible for his or her actions. To equate the turtleneck with the Taliban requires a failure of the imagination bordering on the psychotic: Imagine never being allowed to feel sunlight on your face -- by law.

**feminists yak**

Whenever I see feminists and butt-ugly cattle mentioned in the same sentence, I ALWAYS think of Molly Yard...

Am I the only one wondering if the burqa had been introduced in Paris by some flaming faggot fashion designer instead of in Arabia by an oppressive religious cult that Western women would today be stampeding to be the first ones to wear them at the next office party?

After all, what is that lipstick that makes women's mouths look like a giant bruise all about if not the herd style fascists? Does ANYONE think they are actually sexy?
