Why can't you make Free Republic a pay-per-use website? I think it's worth at least $10.00 a month. Not to offensive, and gets people paying.

I cannot do without FR. period.

I am a small monthly donor and can say that no one will miss 10 or 20 per month to keep an honest and open forum up and running.

Well Callahan, if that's your decision, I will respect that. It will be sad to lose your input, especially over something so seemingly trivial. After a polling the full membership of of the American Society of Steves It is decided that FreeRepublic should stay (it being the greatest thing since sliced bread). It should stay rambunctious and rowdy as ever. As I tell my friends, if you want to find out what's going on with the "right" this is your one-stop shop.

Just thinking a bit more. It could be made that only users who make a donation are able to post an article to the sidebars. Or get the sidebars at all. Those are features, so the people would be paying for the features, not for the content.

And if an article comes up that really needs to be bumped to the a sidebar but wasn't posted that way, Jim could move it up to one of them.

That would cut down on a lot of the abuse of the breaking news and the like, I would bet.
