We know that where liberals dominate the government / locations - fraudulent elections ALWAYS follow.
We know that liberals do NOTHING unless it's for money. They cannot understand, tolerate, or deal with freedom in any form - (except THEIR freedom to denigrate and destroy others without fear of correction and THEIR freedom to amass multiplied billions for themselves and their friends - mostly at taxpayer expense).
Those who attack you, Jim, and who attack Free Republic are simply claiming you / we are doing what THEY ALWAYS DO! Commit FRAUD!
If you hurry freerebublic.com is available.
I know, I know...I just couldn't resist ;-)
Although I am a monthly contributor, what I freely give is not nearly enough to cover the value received so I plan to up the monthly.
Free Republic deserves to be a nationwide ISP - please give it some thought.
Damn it, Jim! You hoodwinked me into donating more money.
:-)
Here is my brainstorm.
The forum stays as is for the most part (donations optional). However, to post a vanity article or to post to a general discussion thread, one would have to pay a small subscription fee).
To do this, all that would be needed would be another "topic" or category which could be used to designate the "chat" style threads (The Guild, ATRW, The Smoker's Lounge, FReepoles, etc), and have an access level or list inplemented in the software to limit access to that category to only donors. Since these threads have no copywrite protections, there should be no fair use concerns.
The vanities would not need a special category- just a warning that vanities are only to be posted by paying customers and donors when a person tries to post an article, and then the moderators could pull those which are vanities posted by non-paying types (and I am not suggesting the mods get access to who has been donating how much. All that would need to be visible to them is a yes/no flag for the article's poster).
In each case, we would be charging for the content which is distinctly separate from the published, copywrited articles we debate.
Never post before drinking your two cups of coffee...
FR doesn't have to be "for profit" to raise money by trading memorabilia for donations. Clubs do it all the time. We're a club, aren't we? I don't know if we've ever considered ourselves a club, but we are. The members of a club are people with many of the same goals.
We could also charge, rather than a monthly fee, a membership fee.
Any legal ramifications to that?
I've seen LOTS of folks put into "the penalty box" (i.e. posting privileges pulled for a few days or so) 'round these parts........heck, I've skirted it a few times myself. :) Ahem.
So, must ask: Were you being "vicious" to other posters? (Remember: doesn't matter if YOU think you were; what matters is whether or not OTHERS felt offended by you; such is the real world...) If so, or if such was the perception (complaint?), were you warned? If so, how often? Did you heed the warning(s)? If not, did that result in your "banning"?
Harry, I always thought that you were a pretty decent guy; still do. You're passionate about your beliefs; I like that and respect that. However (like me, I readily admit), you can also have a hair-trigger temper. That's ok, but it can be difficult to keep that in check on such a forum when arguing an issue or a point. I've been warned on more than one occasion to "tone it down"..........believe me. :) I heeded those little pokes in the ribs, because I knew (much as it probably pi**ed me off to admit it in the 'heat of battle') that I probably was going over the line.
Maybe the same happened to you.........but maybe you didn't respond. I don't know; I'm not accusing here.
I'm just saying that I've been on this forum for one heck of a long time, and I give FR a LOT of "glass time". That qualifies me to say unabashedly that JimRob does NOT ban people willy-nilly and he has one hell of a longer fuse than I do. I've also seen people "banned", later to communicate with Jim about it (directly or indirectly through a friend, etc.), and have seen Jim reinstate the banned party in a heartbeat (hey........he's human, too, right?).
Personally, I'd like to see ya back here. Always enjoyed your stuff, even if I disagreed with you.
I'm surprised I haven't been banned again. It's been, what, two whole hours now.....
Regards,
Callahan Banned
It's offensive to hear continually about how it's your living room and your rules, and then to be hit up for money. How many living rooms have you been in where the host passes the hat for the light bill?
So we got the rough accounts, thanks. Too bad you had to tack this "or else I'm going to throw FR over a cliff" crap onto the end. Teenage girl stuff.
Now, I'll start the bidding at $100. A hundred bucks to biff the first moderator. Anyone join me in putting a bounty on their little pointy heads?
