P.C. Town Bans Santa Claus

P.C. Town Bans Santa Claus

Is something strange in the water in Montgomery County, Md.? This enclave of leftist thought police is notorious for censoring Indian nicknames of sports teams and trying to criminalize smoking in private homes. Now one of its towns has banned Santa Claus.

Kensington Mayor Lynn Raufaste says that a mere two families "felt that they would be uncomfortable" with Santa being part of the annual Christmas tree lighting. So the town council gave St. Nick the heave-ho-ho-ho.

These two families, who don't celebrate Christmas, say they feel excluded because - duh - Santa is synonymous with the holiday.

In years past, Santa would arrive on a fire truck and light the tree with the mayor. But on Sunday, the mayor will light the tree herself, something she calls "a shame," WJLA-TV reported today.

How come kooky, out-of-touch bureaucrats and politicians have no consideration for the majority who are "uncomfortable" with P.C. idiocy?

We know there are plenty of good, sensible people in Montgomery County, because some of them have written to us about the Berserkley-like nonsense going on there. It is time for the silent majority to contact their elected officials and roar.

Those people over there in the near East require men to have long beards and women to cover up from the crown of the head all the way to the ground so they won't realize G_d has a sense of humor.

It never fails. Every Christmas season these nut cases come out of the woodwork trying to make the normal people feel guilty about celebrationg.

If pagan old St. Nick is not ok, and Jesus isn't either, what on earth are the townsfolk celebrating?

Kwanza?

I think Santa is a secular humanist religious symbol. Just a slight re-arrangement of the letters will provide the source.

But I must point out that the notion of Santa Claus is a clever ploy to get parents to lie to their children,

No,that would be bible school.

while diverting attention from the birth of Christ.

You mean the guy whose mother was a virgin? Speaking about lying to children!

I apologize if I have offended anyone.

You haven't offended anyone who is sane. I'm not a smoker now,but I was for about 40 years, and I never once saw or heard of a smoker refusing to put his/her cigarette out when someone with legimitate health problems asked politely. Not once.

Remove the beard and make him/her wear lipstick so he/she has no discernable gender. If his/her face was not quite dark enough to be black and not quite light enough to be white I am sure he/she, could, with just a little imagination pass as just about anyone. Since he/she is the "Winter Holiday Person" he/she would show no favouritism or bias toward any particular race, creed, religion or sex(ual orientation).

You want to make Michael Jackson a holiday figure?

You need to get a life. Does anyone think God made a mistake when he gave us imagination and laughter? Don't think so.

Strange. I actually thought at the beginning of your reply that you were the only one who understood I meant to be satirical, until I got to this line. Oh well, I guess that there are too many people on FR with an Agenda anymore to attempt humor without explicitly "/sarcasming". So, since you believed I was serious, can you explain to me what a fundamentalist secular humanist would be relative to someone who is just a regular secular humanist? And what did my ending statement "What is satire an Anglicization of" cause you to think?

Also, if my post had been posted by someone else, I would have laughed at it, since if the other person was being serious, I would have still thought it was funny, because I do have a sense of humor. I would not have told him to get a life, since that is not real funny, and had he been serious, it would have just made him mad, which is not a way to win someone over to your side of an issue. I am not trying to lecture you, but I am curious, since the first part of your post seemed to be replying in kind with humor, and then the last line seemed to indicate you didn't get it at all.

As a former Marylander,I was appalled by the Councils decision to ban Santa. Thanks for providing the address.Dont worry I was polite and diplomatic in my denouncing their UnAmericanism.UnAmericanism? You bet!You can take to the bank, the fact that the two families in question werent Americans.I hope they reverse their decision.

Couldn't step into a thread without Catholic bashing, could you? Gee, imagine the horridness of honoring people who propagated and nurtured the faith, some of whom frequently suffered torture and execution for it. And what, pray tell, have Swaggert, Falwell, Mohler, Bakker, Crouch, or your average Midwest/Southern evangelical suffered for it?

Looks to me like you stepped into it, actually! ;-) Sorry that your victimhood caused you to take my posts seriously. They were meant to be satirical, but there seem to be a lot of easily affronted people here, anymore. As for the televangelists, they probably bother me more than you, but I don't assume that they have done nothing for God since I don't know. I am pretty much fed up with everyone who thinks that their particular denomination is the only one with the truth, whether they be Southern Baptists, Catholics, Muslims, or Atheists.

"If I lived in this town, I'd dress up like St. Nick from here on out til Christmas just to spite these people."

That brings to mind the party scene in "Zorro: The Gay Blade" where George Hamilton and all of the men show up dressed as Zorro and the Alcalde rips the mask off each of them as they come in, trying to find the real Zorro.

"Here I am"!

No, but I think a lot of other people on this thread may be suffering from that, since they all seemed to think I was serious. Judging from your answer to my second post, you may be one of those my unsuccessful attempt at satire was directed toward; those who run around trying to get rid of Nativity scenes at Christmas. I think it is hilarious the effort some people will exert to rid our society of the evil of Nativity scenes. So you may be one of them there fundamentalist secular humanists. The regular secular humanists just live and ignore Nativity scenes. It's the hardline fundamentalist extremist secular humanists that we gotta worry about...

The key word here being "unsuccessful".

those who run around trying to get rid of Nativity scenes at Christmas.

I hope you didn't bet anything you can't afford to lose on this. I'm with the bible-thumpers on this. This is a traditional holiday that hurts nobody, and nobody is forced to participate against their will,or to believe if they don't want to believe.

If you have satellite or cable, you can usually catch it on Comedy Central, TBS, TNT, or AMC. One or the other of them usually show it at least two or three times a month.

Huh???

Perhaps people would "get" your satire better if you wrote more clearly.

And considering the points you made in your first (satirical) post are ones that are regularly made by the bible-thumping wing of FR, it is easy to understand why people would think you were serious.
