Read Guadalcanal Diary by Richard Tregaskis, the adult version. After the opening weeks of the battle the Marines took the time to kill every Jap twice. They learned to do this after being snookered by false surrenders and live soldiers hiding among the dead.

Just like the way caves were dealt with on Iwo in '45, this is another Pacific war lesson that we should not have to re-learn.

From the story: "AC130 Spectre attack helicopters flew overhead five times, hovering and firing at close range. "

The AC 130 is a huuuuuuuuge plane, not a helicopter.

Both CIA operatives were dressed in Afghan robes, had grey beards and spoke Persian

Very telling....

This article is totally different from the immediate post from an eyewitness. Again from a British newspaper.

This is not good. It will come back to haunt us. Nothing tangible was achieved by our involvement here that outweighs the unintended consequences we may reap for years to come. We may have just lost a lot of the moral high ground that has been the greatness of America's leadership in this so-called "War on Terrorism".

I really like the ending..."and the Taleban killed to a man."

One US special forces soldier called the bombing “fireworks you’ll never forget”. AC130 Spectre attack helicopters flew overhead five times, hovering and firing at close range.

do they make a helicopter version?

wow ...... What a story! The CIA guys might as well have been babes in the woods. We sure have gotten rusty. The characters in Tom Clancy's books would never have made such a mistake. What a shame.

a very excellent article.

So excellent, that it does not surprise one that it was in an english newspaper. It would have been surprising had it appeared in an american newspaper.

at least we have geraldo (puke)

The soldiers would sit on the ground in the middle of a gunbattle casually unlacing a pair of boots or olive green trainers.

Take care of your feet and they'll take care of you.;^)
